POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Social Worker
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt Full Time
DEPARTMENT: Catholic Social Services, Guiding Star Ministries
REPORTS TO: Guiding Star Ministries Director
DIRECT REPORTS: May supervise student interns and/or volunteers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include regular, comprehensive case management services to the residents of Guiding Star Ministries. Develop, recruit and facilitate prenatal and parenting programs and services for the Northwest Philadelphia community utilizing a Trauma informed Family Strengthening Framework.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide weekly case management services to the residents of the Guiding Star Ministries. Case management supportive services include completing a full comprehensive assessment upon admittance, identifying goals with the resident that include working toward self-sufficiency, provide ongoing support and counseling that helps the client worked towards her goals.
- Inform and assist parents with support and formal child development and parenting education throughout pregnancy and during the baby’s first year of life.
- Meet weekly with the team of Guiding Star Ministries to discuss case reviews, upcoming admissions and resident issues.
- Develop, recruit and facilitate prenatal and parenting educative and supportive programs for the larger Northwest Philadelphia community by utilizing evidenced based curricula such as Nurturing Families, Parents as Teachers, Partners for a Healthy Baby, Parent Café and Strengthening Families.
- Work collaboratively with other community organizations in providing programming to address the needs of individuals/families experiencing prenatal and/or parenting needs.
- Maintain weekly documentation of services and maintain client records in an organized manner utilizing the Harmony database or other assigned computer database. Provide monthly/quarterly service reports of group statistics and outcomes to CSS Administrator.
- Complete and submit all Real Alternative paperwork into the system weekly and maintain organized confidential files for eligible clients participating in the program.
- Actively participate in Real Alternatives and all contractual funded programs’ meetings/conferences/trainings.
- Participate in quarterly roundtable meetings with colleagues to discuss any program or service delivery changes, to share resources and to keep up to date with trends in maternity and/or parenting.
REPRESENTATIVE KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the agency as presented in the mission statement.
- Strict adherence to the Archdiocesan position on abortion and contraception.
- Requires minimum or BSW or related degree with 1-3 years of experience.
- Requires interest/experience in crisis pregnancy, teen pregnancy, child welfare, parenting education, etc.
- Ability to maintain a professional partnership with clients and community organizations at all times.
- Requires a PA driver’s license and insured vehicle.
- Evening and weekend hours are required.
