Assistant Director of Religious Education
Position Summary
In support of the Bishop’s role as Chief Teacher and Catechist of the Diocese, the Assistant Director of Religious Education serves priests and parish and school leadership in the Diocese of Camden by developing and supporting catechists in their mission to provide faith formation in a transformational, family model that engages adults to be in service to their children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following: (other duties may be assigned)
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Secretariat for Catholic Education and the Secretariat for Pastoral Outreach in the formation and professional development of catechists and catechetical leaders across the diocese
- Facilitate and manage formation of parish catechetical leaders, parish catechists, and Catholic school principals and teachers through the development and organization of systems for content delivery and through direct facilitation of learning experiences
- Promote best practices in evangelizing catechesis and faith formation
- Provide resources and professional learning opportunities to PCLs, parish catechists, principals and teachers using best practices in adult faith formation and professional development
- Assist and accompany parish leaders in their reimagination of the role of parish catechists in accordance with the Directory for Catechesis, the USCCB’s Handbook on Catechetical Accompaniment, and Diocesan guidelines on evangelizing catechesis
QUALIFICATIONS And EXPERIENCE
- Practicing Catholic with an active sacramental and prayer life
- Dedicated to personal ongoing faith, spiritual and leadership formation
- At least a Master’s degree in theology, Catholic studies, pastoral ministry, catechetics, educational ministry or a related discipline or possesses commensurate certifications or experience
- Understands and affirms diocesan policies and guidelines, the Directory for Catechesis, and the USCCB’s Handbook on Catechetical Accompaniment
- Has at least three years of experience in parish administration and/or parish catechetical ministry
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong presentation and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong listening skills and is prudent in holding confidences
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning experiences, workshops, and/or retreats
- Technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and presentation software
- Good time management, including ability to manage several projects at the same time
- Ability to multi-task and retain accuracy in an environment of competing deadlines
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the Diocese of Camden regularly
