Summary
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development will help oversee the day-to-day operations of the Development Office, with a particular emphasis on growing the diocesan annual appeal and strengthening donor stewardship. This is a fundraising position with an emphasis on a strategic partnership with the Director of Development.
The primary responsibilities of this position include the strategic planning, development and oversite of the South Jersey Catholic Ministries Appeal Campaign, supporting the major gifts program as well as the current Catholic Strong capital campaign and future capital campaigns. This role calls for effective leadership and management of administrative staff. The Associate Director will work closely with pastors, parish staff and volunteers.
Roles & Responsibilities
MAILINGS - Develop, create, and produce all mail and e-mail appeals including:
- Writing and content of letters/e-mails
- Corresponding stationery and brochures and/or inserts for mailings
- Work with internal departments to meet deadlines for completion of direct mail projects
- Oversee production of materials for mailing
- Supply printer with data and/or files needed
SJCMA CAMPAIGN - Develop and implement annual campaign theme
- Determine yearly campaign and parish goals with approval from the Bishop
- Oversee production of annual campaign video
- Oversee database reporting processes for each campaign year
- Assist Pastors in Major Gift Solicitations as needed
- Meet with parishes on a regular basis
- Assist with trainings and parish team building
- Encourage proper campaign implementation
- Speak at Mass times, when requested
- Oversee all campaign mailings, both solicitations and pledge reminders
- Oversee scheduling and production of Catholic Star Herald campaign update ads
- Work with Events Manager to prepare for Annual Appeal Events
- Campaign Launch Event
- Volunteer Appreciation Event
- Donor Recognition Event
- Report to Vicar General with campaign updates as requested
- Apply for United Way program participation each year
CATHOLIC STRONG CAMPAIGN
- Oversee production of reminder statements
- Assist with non-delinquency update mailings to donors
- Prepare collection period report for Finance
- Overall comprehensive back-up to the Director of Development
MAJOR GIFTS - Assist Director of Development with Major Gift efforts
- Identification; Pastor participation; Cultivation; Solicitation
SOUTH JERSEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND
- Consultation with the Director of Development and Events Manager
STEWARDSHIP - Develop SJCMA Annual Report each year to update donors on ministry support
- Assist Director of Development with donor acknowledgement phone calls
- Oversee donor engagement mailings and communication (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)
- Develop additional opportunities to communicate with donors
Other
- Reconcile Blackbaud Merchant Services credit card disbursement reports with transaction records to ensure effective control over donor electronic gifts.
- Assist Director of Development with any additional tasks requested
Education/ Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Minimum of three to five years fundraising experience
- Supervisory experience; Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge; Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Excellent skills in planning and organizing; Conscientious about campaign deadlines
- Able to maintain donor confidentiality
Special Qualifications
Active member of a Roman Catholic Parish. Ability to articulate the philosophy and objectives of the Catholic Church, including the theology of stewardship. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge and skill required.
