POSITION PURPOSE
Day to day general maintenance of all rectory and church facilities and properties for St Gabriel in Port Orchard & Prince of Peace in Belfair; specifically daily operations including grounds, facilities, janitorial, safety, security, with light Heating and cooling, electrical and plumbing work.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Assures necessary facilities-related support to all parish programs and special events including set-up/tear-down of chairs, tables, and other equipment, and attends events as required or as necessary.
- Conducts daily, weekly, & monthly custodian rotational duties inside and outside campus bldgs. Partners with church custodian to ensure facilities are maintained in clean and sanitary condition, including but not limited to trash removal, restocking/refilling paper products, soaps, sanitizing, cleaning bathrooms, floors, and windows. Performs as back up for custodian.
- General landscaping duties as needed to include, weeding and mowing and watering lawn and landscaped areas.
- Performs preventive maintenance to buildings and grounds to minimize plumbing, mechanical, electrical, heating, and air conditioning system failures.
- Diagnoses problems and makes needed 'basic' repairs to buildings including but not limited; to minor drywall or wood repair, tiling, furniture repair, staining, painting, fountain, sprinkler system, and drainage system.
- Safety team member for campus, responsible for identifying and reporting safety concerns to the Parish Administrator or Facilities Manager and to address issues that are easily correctable.
- Is available to respond to emergencies during off-duty hours as may be required.
- Communicates daily with supervisor and participates in staff meetings and retreats.
- Ability to operate motor vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurability.
- Remains current with all necessary operational and administrative knowledge by attending training and continuing education opportunities as assigned by management.
- Periodic - As Needed assistance with the above at our sister churches at Prince of Peace, Belfair WA or St. Nicholas, Gig Harbor
- Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned.
- Proven experience as a handyman/facility maintenance worker.
- Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, mechanical or HVAC systems.
- Good communication ability.
- Well-organized and apt in problem-solving and highly task driven.
- Attention to detail.
- The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Scale Ladders and use mechanical lifts to access roofs and high-reach areas
- Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 50lbs across campus
- Frequently stands, kneels reaches, bends, grabs, holds, twists etc. to perform maintenance tasks.
- Works indoors and outdoors throughout the year as duties require.
- Ability to walk, bend, stand, and or kneel for the duration of shift
- Ability to carry and use tools to perform tasks: Vacuums, Backpack Vacuums, Mops, Brooms, Brushes, Ladders, Stools, Riding Mower, Saws, lawn equipment, etc.
- Ability to work with chemical cleaning agents
- Ability and willingness to engage with parishioners and guests in a professional and respectful manner.
- Must Pass Background Check and Drug Screenings as prescribed.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
