High School Music Teacher (Vocal Performance)
Position Overview:
St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Music Teacher specializing in vocal performance. This position will be responsible for directing and instructing the School's Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Acapella Group, as well as assisting with other musical ensembles and the annual school musical. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vocal music education, a passion for nurturing young talent, and a commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students. Anticipated start Date January 6, 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to integrate Catholic values into their teaching and to model faith-based leadership. The music teacher will contribute to the spiritual formation of students by incorporating elements of Catholic faith and tradition into choral music and performance. This includes selecting sacred music for choir performances, fostering an understanding of the relationship between faith and the arts, and supporting the school's mission to develop students who are not only academically prepared but also morally and spiritually grounded.
Key Responsibilities:
• Direct and teach the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Acapella Group, including rehearsal planning, vocal techniques, music selection, and performance preparation.
• Assist with the production and direction of the school musical, working closely with the Drama and Technical departments.
• Organize and conduct performances, including concerts, competitions, and school events, ensuring high-quality presentations.
• Experience in Catholic Liturgical Church Music
• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that fosters musical growth, vocal development, and appreciation of choral music.
• Provide individual vocal instruction and support to students as needed.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment within all music groups.
• Work closely with school administration, faculty, and parents to ensure the success and growth of the music program.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
• Manage music materials, including sheet music, equipment, and rehearsal schedules.
• Encourage the students to express and deepen their Catholic faith through music and performance, particularly in liturgical and prayer settings.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (Master's Degree preferred)
• Strong background in vocal music, choral conducting, and vocal pedagogy
• Experience in directing high school choirs, vocal ensembles, and musical theater.
• Proven ability to engage and motivate students in a classroom and performance setting
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Knowledge of music technology and an ability to integrate it into the music program
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a team-oriented environment
• Strong commitment to the mission and values of a Catholic high school
Compensation:
Salary range of $47,000 to $67,000, based upon education and experience. Additional benefits may be available as part of the employment package. Stipends are provided for afterschool activities.
