Job Description:
Our Lady Star of the Sea School is seeking a second-grade teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. OLSOS is a faith-based community dedicated to bringing Jesus into our students’ lives through exceptional academics and rich faith experiences. We are looking for an innovative, energetic, faith-filled individual who is passionate about engaging students and challenging them to meet their potential. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to provide students with strong and exceptional foundational skills through active and differentiated instruction while preparing them for the rigors of third grade.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education
- Valid teaching certificate issued by the Michigan Department of Education
- Archdiocese of Detroit Certified Catechist - current certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Eagerness to continuously enrich teaching expertise through engagement in professional development opportunities.
Additionally, the candidate must complete the Protecting God’s Children training.

- Implement best pedagogical practices, particularly involving the language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science
- Demonstrate competence in the subject areas taught
- Provide innovative and differentiated instruction to best reach all levels of learners and learning styles
- Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach which sets high standards for student behavior, promotes self-direction and confidence, and manages inappropriate behavior effectively
- Maintain a positive relationship with parents, students, and colleagues through regular communication
- Provide a caring and nurturing classroom environment where students feel safe to learn and grow academically, socially, and spiritually
- Completes additional administrative, operational, and professional responsibilities as needed
