Gift Shop Attendant Job Description
Job Summary:
The Gift Shop Attendant is responsible for sales merchandise, admission tickets, and memberships. Working individually or with a team member, employees must maintain professionalism and courtesy to all guests who visit our facilities. A general knowledge of St. Louis Cathedral and the Old Ursuline Convent Museum, as well as our schedule of events, will be necessary to help answer questions. The Gift Shop Attendant reports to the Gift Shop Manager.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to: Gift Shop Manager
Assignments received from: Executive Director and Rector
Interacts with: Visitors/customers, staff, clergy, volunteers, docents, Cultural Center members, and donors
Individual(s) or groups supervised: Volunteers
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greet all guests in a professional and friendly manner
Demonstrate excellent customer service and sales skills
Process retail sales using point of sale system
Complete cash and credit card sales
Have a general knowledge of merchandise and prices
Alert the Gift Shop Manager when stock is running low
Organize and clean the Gift Shops on a daily basis
Make sure all merchandise is presentable and well stocked
Balance cash and credit cards sales following each shift
Provide visitors with general information about St. Louis Cathedral, the Old Ursuline Convent Museum and surrounding area
Help create a positive experience for all visitors
Be available for morning, afternoon, holiday, and weekend work
Fill in for other Gift Shop employees when needed
Additional duties as assigned by Gift Shop Manager
Qualifications

Education/Experience
High school diploma or 1 to 3 months related experience is preferred but not required
Experience handling credit card and cash transactions preferred
Skills/Abilities
Good communication skills
Good customer service skills
Ability to count money and make change accurately
Ability to listen and follow instructions
Ability to solve problems quickly and independently
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
Ability to lift and receive merchandise boxes (approx. 20-30 lbs.)
Ability to climb ladders in order to assist customers and stock merchandise
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Must conduct yourself in a Christian-like and professional manner at all times
