Immigration & Refugee Programs Interpreter/Translator: The interpreter/translator will work closely with the Refugee Services Program staff to supplement program activities and enhance services to the clients by facilitating effective communication between Refugee Services staff and the clients. The interpreter/translator will convert one spoken or written language to another in order to relay complex concepts and ideas for the client(s) and our staff.
Responsibilities may include: assisting with the implementation of a cultural orientation program by providing direct interpretation for Refugee clients who have just arrived in the United States from Haiti, Cuba, Burma, Iraq, Syria and other countries; providing interpretation in client meetings; translating documents and materials into the target language; attending refugee services group events. He/she must have strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and one of the target languages like Arabic or Burmese. He/She must have the ability to maintain effective and professional work relationships. This position is for a 1 year contract. This position is dependent on the needs of our client population and will operate on an on-call/as needed basis which can vary week to week.
Verbal and Written fluency in Haitian Creole. Native fluency is highly desirable.
