Position Summary: The Diocese of Charleston seeks a qualified individual for the full-time position of Digital Content Specialist within the Secretariat of Communications and Public Affairs. Reporting to the Secretary of Communications and Public Affairs, this position will assist in managing the digital presence for constituent engagement functions of the diocese, working in close coordination with the members of the communications team and other diocesan offices. This digital presence includes the division’s website, social media, email campaigns, video production, and other emerging mediums, with the dual goals of increasing engagement among the diocese’s constituents (parishioners, parents of school children, donors, etc.).
The key objective of this position is building and maintaining a highly engaged community of supporters on social media that will be receptive to the diocese’s mission and purpose.

Essential Job Functions:
Digital Presence – Creates digital content for the diocese in coordination with other communications staff and key stakeholders, maintaining and planning new content for use on the web, focused on key constituencies. Role includes managing existing social channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X and LinkedIn, plus close coordination on promotion and branding of diocesan initiatives. Creates digital social media content for parishes and ministries posting to Catholic Social Media (by Prenger) online platform, separate from diocesan social media.
Analytics and Evaluation – Tracks data and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of digital content across web, email, and social media in order to continuously evaluate performance, modulate strategy and tactics to increase both engagement and giving. Position will assist in the creation of the evaluation plan to consistently measure effectiveness of engagement efforts.
Content Creation / Aggregation – Writes and edits original content for all mediums with an emphasis on digital content (website, electronic newsletters, letters, school-based communications, others as needed). Workflow will be based on communications priorities for the office and the diocese. The position will also work in tandem with other diocesan departments to ensure consistent and concise communications. Candidate designs professional media for diocesan departments, including but not limited to invitations, newsletters, cards, signage, annual reports, etc.
Video Production – Assists with video production for the diocese, mainly as short-form engagement pieces developed for use on the web and social media platforms.
Campaign Digital Presence – Assists in unifying the appearance and behavior of content for the web and digital presence of diocese’s comprehensive branding plan.
Coordination and Planning – Schedules the creation/acquisition of content for the diocesan website and works with collaborators to assign tasks and manage deadlines. Creates content calendar and ensures it is adhered to and understood by collaborators.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with one (1) to three (3) years of experience working in a communications or marketing role. Relevant education can supplement years of experience. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church who has a passion for the New Evangelization and is familiar with the Catholic media space.
Direct experience creating email and social media campaigns. Solid working knowledge of digital analytics tools for websites (Google Analytics preferred), emails (Flocknote or similar), and social media (Facebook and Instagram Insights, TrueSocialMetrics, Spreadfast or similar). Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Canva and Adobe Photoshop. Photography and videography proficiencies preferred, but not required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
The candidate should have knowledge of how to use a computer, copier, fax machine and phone. A driver’s license is required. This position involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands and feet, climbing/balancing, stopping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching above shoulders, and tasting/smelling at least 1/3 of the time. The candidate should also be able to lift 25 lbs to move files or carry materials.
