The Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration are seeking a Part Time Activity Coordinator to work Monday-Friday 12:30pm-4:00pm to assist the Sisters living in the infirmary in Mishawaka, Indiana. The Activity Coordinator plans activities to engage up to 20 elderly Sisters in motor skill development, games or exercises, social interactions, and leisure time. Our goals are to maximize the Sisters' existing abilities, promote independence as much as possible, respect the dignity of each Sister, and improve mental health even as Sisters face the challenges of aging.
Responsibilities
• Plan a group activity every afternoon to engage the Sisters intellectually, physically. socially, and/or spiritually.
• Promote activities and encourage individual Sisters to attend.
• Gather all supplies and set up and then clean up for each activity.
• Work one-on-one with Sisters to address specific needs or to assist them as needed.
• Plan a larger event at least monthly.
• Support one or more Sisters in planning other activities, such as movies or feast day celebrations.
• Organize haircuts for the Sisters. A hairdresser comes to the Convent every 6 weeks.
• Decorate the hallways, activity room, and doors of the Sisters according to the season.
• Order and facilitate audio books or library books for the Sisters.
• Transport Sisters to and from activities.
• Take Sisters outside for walks or golf cart rides.
• Accompany Sisters to the Adoration Chapel occasionally.
• Support nurses and nurse aides with patient care as needed.
• Assist in other areas as assigned.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in long term care of the elderly is preferred
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, squat, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
