Description
ENTITY: Mt. Olivet Cemetery was consecrated in 1892 and is located on the western side of the Denver Metro area in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. It is the largest cemetery in Colorado containing 392 acres. St. Simeon Cemetery was consecrated in 2004 and is located on the eastern side of the Denver Metro area in Aurora, Colorado. The Mortuary has two locations. The first is located on the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and was opened in 1981. The second was the recent acquisition of Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary. These entities serve the Catholic Community of the Denver metro area and its various parishes, missions, and apostolates and other members of the general public regardless of their religious affiliation.
THE POSITION: This position reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the overall supervision and maintenance of all cemetery locations and the cemetery grounds team members. The position will assist the Operations Manager with coordinating funeral arrangements, facilitating internment needs, maintaining the highest standard of care of the grounds, graves, and markers. Enforce turf care standards and implementation of standard operating procedures and best practices. Assist in supervision of overall monument shop operations and expectations. Administrative functions to include payroll, purchase orders, accounts payable, job performance reviews, resolving customer service requests, issues, and other administrative duties as assigned to maintain and ensure the highest standard quality and consistency for graveside services and the visitor experience. This position will work in close collaboration with the leadership team including Managers, Irrigation Superintendent and respective Leads and/or Assistant Superintendents. The position must serve as a symbol of the extended community of the Church, a community of unbroken by death, and by the sacrament of the Eucharist, celebrate the death and resurrection of the Lord which offers to us the promise of eternal life. The duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures and in doing so upholds the Catholic social teachings of the Catholic Church (the Church).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsible for overall supervision and management of grounds team members;

Assists in the selection of employees and manages employee performance, including annual reviews, disciplinary action, and termination, when necessary;

Ensures all grounds crews are properly trained on procedures, safety, and equipment;
-
Ensure daily interment schedule, work orders, and markers/monuments are executed and/or installed in a timely manner and within organization guidelines and state regulations;

Verifies interment order accuracy;

Ensure maintenance of the cemetery grounds, property, and facilities;
-
Maintains inventory of equipment, supplies, and merchandise;
-
Manages outside vendors, such as landscapers and contractors, to ensure compliance with relevant agreements;

Answers questions and assists with serving the needs of the client families, their guests, and other visitors on the cemetery grounds;

Manages special requests from client families such as addition of trees, benches, fences, etc.;

Handles complaints from client families regarding maintenance and servicing of monuments and grounds in accordance with organization guidelines;

Completes preparation and closure of interment site in a timely manner and in agreement with client family expectations and policies and procedures of the organization;

Ensures that equipment is functioning and properly maintained;

Ensures mowing, trimming, irrigation, and completes other activities related to ensuring a professional presentation of the cemetery grounds to client families and visitors;

Oversees minor maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of power equipment. Refers more serious problems to a mechanic;

May be required to assist in loading and unloading of supplies, equipment, and/or merchandise;

Identifies and remedies all hazards on associated properties;
-
Coordinates special projects as assigned by the Operations Manager;

Coordinates and assists with special events as needed;
-
Ability to recognize sensitive information and adhere to strict confidentiality;

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent;
-
Assistant Superintendent and/or Cemetery experience preferred;
-
Prior exposure to heavy equipment;
COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Refrain from public promotion or approval of any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals;

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with a two-year associate degree, diploma or from a college, technical, and business, vocational or correspondence school. Under certain conditions, experience in the industry or related business environment may be a substituted for education requirements.

Associated degree preferred;
-
Two years of experience in (or a combination of) Cemetery operations, funeral service industry, or related business environment;
-
Heavy Equipment experience preferred;
-
Preferred 3 years of experience using and maintaining equipment, including vehicles, mowers, trimmers, blowers, backhoes, boom truck, etc.;

Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience;
-
Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record;
-
Demonstrated ability to manage projects related to grounds and facility maintenance;
-
Ability to show respect and sensitivity toward client families while working in a physically demanding environment;
-
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers;
-
Ability to train, motivate staff and effectively lead Cemetery Operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Loud noise from equipment/machine is at a level where ear protection is sometimes required;

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use is required for some job duties.
