DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Status: Exempt, Full Time
Salary Range: $124,018 - $155,022
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. Candidates are paid at the minimum of the salary range or no higher than the first quartile of the salary range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs.

Position Summary
Under the leadership of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Operations – Catholic Schools will be responsible for distinct function areas related to supporting and servicing the operational vitality of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The Director of Operations – Catholic Schools builds communities of professional practice in school finance, specific program management, and systems development with other departments that provide critical services to schools.
The director will apply project management tools in change management contexts to implement high value systems for schools in collaboration with DCS regional leadership teams and other ADLA departments. The director will have management responsibility over specific programs that provide foundational benefits to the operational vitality of schools such as, but not limited to, the National School Lunch Program, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, Federal Title Programs, and operations improvement plans at distressed schools. In addition, the director will support school budget and finance activities, among other team functions with the Director of School Finance and COO. The Director of Operations – Catholic Schools will serve as the Operational Vitality team liaison to between schools and ADLA departments related to school operations. The director will be responsible for scaffolding stakeholder understanding in multiple areas of school operations such as, but not limited to, school finance, HR, construction, and government compliance.
Essential Functions
Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work.
The Director of Operations – Catholic Schools is responsible for the planning and execution of supports to schools designed to increase system-wide operational vitality in the image of Jesus Christ and with the highest standards of Catholic school leadership.
Team Leadership and Management
- Collaborating, planning, and functioning with a high-performing and inclusive team of professionals. This will include managing the development and implementation of agile project management practices within the Operational Vitality team (e.g., Gannt Charts, RACI Matrices, SIPOC analysis, etc.).
- Supporting the formation of a vision and goals for the team and its members, including helping to defining what success looks like, establishing outcome-based goals, and planning and managing execution to meet those goals. This work will include monitoring and updating Outcomes and Key Results (OKR’s) for the Operational Vitality Team and connecting this work to tactical project management.
- Leading operational vitality professional development to support ongoing learning and cultures of professional practice throughout the ADLA. This will include designing, supporting, and delivering presentations and other job aides across all areas of operations at a school site (e.g., school finance, Title programs, NSLP, construction, etc.)
- Participating in cross-functional collaboration within the department and with peer departments in the archdiocese.
- Advancing delivery of program goals on time and on budget.
- Managing cycles of strategic planning, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of results to monitor and continually improve the program and its impact.
- Program/Service Development and Execution
Operational Vitality
- School Program Development, Implementation, Management and Monitoring: Collaborate with regional superintendents, the operational vitality team, and other ADLA departments to support principals/presidents and pastors in the areas of the National School Lunch Program, Human Resources, school finance, the international student program, school technology (e.g., ERATE, ADLA C3), safety, construction, and other areas of school operational vitality. Design, develop, maintain and manage program processes, systems and procedures for the afore-mentioned programs.
- School Budget and Finance: In collaboration with the Director of School Finance, COO, regional superintendents and school administrators, support the development, maintenance, training, and reporting of school-level budgets and financial activities.
- School Compliance: In collaboration with regional teams, schools, ACC departments and other necessary stakeholders, supports the communication flow and follow-up of school compliance related matters as articulated in the ADLA Administrative Handbook and of the Department of Catholic Schools.
- Cross-Department Liaison: Form functional relationships, feedback loops and systems between related departments such as, Human Resources, General Counsel, Financial Services, Catholic Education Foundation (CEF), to ensure successful accomplishment of tasks, projects, cases, and troubleshooting.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in public administration, business administration or related field.
- A graduate degree with an emphasis in education, business and/or administration is preferred.
- Professional experience which includes at least three years of management experience in large-scale public, private or non-profit institutions. Experience in K-12 schools is preferred, particularly in tuition-based schools.
- Experience with change leadership, communication strategy and stakeholder management.
- A passion and demonstrated commitment to transforming K-12 education, managing, and developing inclusive teams, and equipping diverse leaders with the tools they need to advance Catholic schools, particularly for the highest-need students.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures that affect the schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
- Modern principles and practices of change management, and agile project management.
- A generalist understanding of school budgeting, cash management, revenue generation and expense controls.
Skills in:
- Show excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with others internally and externally; Intrinsic drive to create new systems and continuously improve existing processes.
- Stellar verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced skill in using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to:
- Demonstrated experience leading the formation of school leaders.

- Willingness to travel to multiple campuses daily and work remotely where necessary.
