ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ANNUAL APPEALS
Location: Archdiocese of Los Angeles
Status: Exempt, Full Time
Salary Range: $77,712 - $97,140
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. Candidates are paid at the minimum of the salary range or no higher than the first quartile of the salary range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs.

Position Summary
This individual will administer and oversee multiple direct mail projects, serving an integral part of the management for both planning and. implementing campaigns, with a high degree of customization and emotional appeal.
This individual will help manage the day-to-day operations within the office.
Essential Functions
- Work closely with the Director to help develop and lead a comprehensive annual appeal program, including strategies to focus on securing new donors.
- Working with key advancement staff to assist implementing other Archdiocesan wide initiatives.
- Assist in developing strategies to develop giving societies, alumni groups, and incorporate electronic giving campaigns.
- Responsible for working with outside vendors- specifically, printers & mail fulfillment centers.
- Work with creative team on concepts for campaigns
- Provide oversight and strategic vision to fund raising activity.
- Develop and implement staff performance measures.
- Responsible for the overall strategic development of the major donors, especially in the context of multi-year, multi-faceted and donor-centric approaches to fundraising.
- Oversee budgets, progress, deadlines, goals and objectives related to specific campaigns.
- Manage the content and updates to the Department's websites.
- Provide support to, and training of staff as needed.
- Organize annual training sessions for parish leadership.
- Organizes and coordinates all of the training, lead gifts, clergy solicitation, direct mail, in-pew, and mail/phone follow-up phases of the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal, including preparation, production and distribution of the taped homily, the opening and closing tabloids, training, promotional and solicitation materials.
- Administers the Business Unit, including timely and accurate processing of all pledges, payments, corrections and record updates, and regularly schedule total updates of parish rosters.
- Oversees the design and production of all required materials and assures their timely delivery to the archdiocese and to the parishes.
- Oversees the preparation and distribution of the kickoffs and final report tabloids
- Researches state of the art campaign implementation techniques and recommends appropriate trials and/or full implementation of those that would be appropriate to the Annual Appeal.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Development.
Minumum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and education likely to provide the required knowledge, skills and ability, typically:
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration or related field is required.
- Master’s Degree preferable.
- Minimum 3 year's professional experience in either: non-profit fundraising, commercial sales or experience in marketing, selling and customer service.
- Experience in direct mail appeals.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Active members of a Roman Catholic faith community.
- Major gifts fundraising, giving campaigns, constituent relations, event management and/or volunteer management
- Must possess knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
- Aptitude for the effective use of information systems in support of a development program.
- Maintain a professional, polished demeanor.
Skills in:
- Initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities.
- Identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality and a high degree of accuracy in donor records.

- Must have reliable transportation.

- Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturday as needed, additional hours during peak times or as required.
