The Diocese of Fall River is seeking a Coordinator of Multicultural Ministry to join our team at the Chancery Office in Fall River, MA. The Diocese of Fall River is standing on the threshold of a life-changing chapter in its 116-year history and we are looking for someone who is driven to be an integral part of this exciting team. The Diocese of Fall River, established on March 12, 1904, serves Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, and covers 1,194 square miles. This Catholic community is divided into five territories or deaneries; has 130 entities, such as schools, nursing homes, and cemeteries and 265,000 persons who worship in 70 parishes and 12 mission churches.
The Coordinator of Multicultural Ministry is a part-time, 20 hours per week position and will report to the Secretary for the New Evangelization, focusing primarily on offering support to ethnic and cultural communities in parishes and lay movements.This includes various Hispanic, Portuguese, Brazilian, and Cape Verdean communities. This position will aid the Secretariat for the New Evangelization in its mission to work with the Diocese of Fall River’s parishes, personnel and agencies to evangelize and form engaged disciples for Christ.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance and ongoing support to pastors and relevant parish personnel in ministering to ethnic and cultural communities.
- Create a support network and leadership formation for lay leaders of different Catholic ethnic communities and ministries.
- Develop resources and training opportunities for ethnic communities in the areas of evangelization and catechesis, including continuing education, workshops, written materials, and electronic resources in needed languages.
- Collaborate with the Secretariat & directors to ensure program, event, and service offerings to parishes meet linguistic and cultural needs.
- Aid in communications to the different ethnic and cultural communities.
- Work with Secretariat staff in developing strategic planning, annual goals and adhering to its mission and vision, especially in regards to its work for and with different ethnic and cultural communities.
- Advise on benchmarks and metrics that define success and effectiveness in multicultural ministry; leverage those to report on status and successes.
- Represent the diocese in professional organizations supporting different ethic and cultural communities.
Qualifications:
- Deep faith and personal commitment to the life of the Catholic Church, and a desire to teach and communicate with others
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church, its mission, teachings, structures, and ministerial life
- Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese; both preferred
- Experience working in Catholic ethnic communities or ministries
- Bachelor’s Degree; degree in Theology, Religious Education or related field preferred
- Ability to teach, train, and mentor leaders
- Organized and detail-oriented, able to handle multiple priorities and work in a deadline driven environment
- Can work collaboratively with others and also take initiative and work independently
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a variety of groups
- Knowledge and skills to do research, writing, and prepare formational materials and programs; ability to organize, conduct, and evaluate formation programs
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite of products
- Ability to work regularly in the field and travel independently throughout the Diocese, including nights and weekends as needed.
