Duties and Responsibilities
St. John Paul II High School is seeking a Cheer Coach to help develop an athletic program under the leadership of the principal and athletic director. This position will help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, discipline, and sportsmanship. This is a part-time position starting in August and going through Summer Cheer Camp.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:
- As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Assists students in attaining the purposes of the cheer team organization
- Adhere to local and TAPPS policies regarding curricular and extracurricular activities
- Enforce and communicate the rules and regulations of the Diocese and SJPII
- Coordinate the purchase of uniforms
- Coordinate the selection procedures of cheer team members
- Supervise football games and community service projects

- Plans for successful student learning of daily objectives that include basic knowledge and skills, and central concepts of the discipline
- Ensures students are engaged and successful in learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Able to effectively manage time and materials
- Maintains current records for student grades and progress
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing
- Valid Texas Driver's License required
- Must be at least 21 years of age
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience in high school cheer team curriculum and expectations
- Planning and organizing skills
- Communicates effectively in oral and written form with both students and adults
- Demonstrates responsibility, competence, and enthusiasm
- Presents a positive model
- Exhibits a willingness to devote necessary time outside of the school day to work with students
Additional Requirements:
- Must submit to required pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle check record check (MVR), and drug screening
- Complete certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
- Requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
- Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
- Maintain confidentiality
