Duties and Responsibilities
Position Overview:
St. John Paul II High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School History Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will be committed to academic excellence and the integration of Catholic values in the classroom. This educator will teach history courses (e.g., World History, U.S. History, Government, etc.), foster a love of learning, and encourage critical thinking in a faith-centered learning environment.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging history lessons aligned with school curriculum and state standards
- Integrate Catholic teachings and values into classroom instruction and discussions
- Serve as a role model for students in faith, integrity, and professionalism
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning
- Use varied teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Assess student progress regularly and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student performance and growth
- Participate in school-wide activities, Masses, retreats, and professional development
- Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and cross-disciplinary projects
Organization Improvement and Morale:
- Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of the diocesan staff
- Maintains confidentiality in matters of the assigned department and the diocese
- Serves as a representative of the diocese, displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and the community served
- Carries out commitments made to diocesan colleagues and the community served
- Employs professional ethics in relationships with diocesan colleagues and the community served
- Positively contributes to the overall mission and values of the Diocese of Corpus Christi to promote a positive organizational culture
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or related field required
- Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred; commitment to Catholic education required
- Demonstrated classroom teaching experience at the secondary level
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
- Passion for history, culture, and civic education
- Must be at least 21 years of age

- Experience with school education

Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in their area of certification
- Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, assessment strategies, and motivational strategies that promote authentic student engagement
- Planning and organization skills
- Effective oral and written communications skills with students and adults
- Ability to effectively embed available technology into daily lesson plans
Additional Requirements:
- Must submit to required pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle check record check (MVR), and drug screening
- Complete certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
- Requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
- Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
