Our Lady of Victory Catholic School is seeking a full-time School Counselor/Social Worker. Our Lady of Victory is a preschool through 8th grade parish school located at 132 Orchard Drive, Northville, MI, and serves a coed population of over 500 students.
Summary
The OLV Counselor/Social Worker is to work in collaboration with the principal/assistant principal in fostering the Catholic Identity of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. He/she will follow the policies and procedures of the school and adhere to directives set by school/parish administration.
The OLV Counselor/Social Worker will build community; design and manage learning; and communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues. He/she is responsible for all aspects of students’ classroom experiences, as well as family partnerships and professional and personal growth.
The OLV Counselor/Social Worker will also assist in other school programs as assigned.
This position requires a high degree of confidentiality, accountability and attention to detail.
Essentials Functions
- Provide counseling services to students in the areas of academic and personal/social development.
- Consult with administration, teachers and parents to determine the needs of and develop student support.
- Develop, select, modify and maintain an effective school counseling program consistent with the school’s mission and goals and in keeping with the Catholic faith.
- Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with parents
- Counsel students individually and in small groups.
- Review school data frequently to ensure the school’s counseling program is meeting the academic and personal/social development of all students.
- Provide guidance to students’ families and make referrals to appropriate community-based behavioral health providers.
- Interpret psychological reports, IEPs and NSPs, and work with administration, teachers, and parents.
- Schedule and facilitate accommodation plan meetings in partnership with Administration.
- Create and assist teachers in maintaining student behavior plans.
- Mediate conflicts between students.
- Remain current as to best practices and continue to develop counseling skills.
- Help the Administration implement restorative practices.
- Develop and maintain collaborative professional relationships with community service providers in order to enhance the student's learning in school
- Available to family and staff especially in times of grief, sickness, social unrest and local or global crisis events
- Provide information to the school community about school-based counseling services/activities in a variety of formats
- Establish, maintain, and monitor accurate, neat and efficient electronic and manual filing systems.
- Ability to handle confidential information with complete security
- Coordinate professional consults and facilitate collaboration with professional service providers in order to enhance the student’s learning and/or emotional wellness within the school environment.
- Provide information and resources to parents in a variety of situations to promote/enhance the student’s emotional, intellectual and spiritual development
- Assist student(s) with clarifying academic, social and spiritual goals of Our Lady of Victory School
- Provide in-service training to faculty, parents and school staff as needed
- Address issues that indicate the potentiality of detrimental, deteriorating or significant harm to student(s) in a timely manner
- Remain available in the Crisis Intervention Team within Our Lady of Victory School in times of emergency
Required Education And Experience
- Current licensure/certification issued by the State of Michigan in School Counseling
- Bachelor degree, minimally; Masters preferred
- Experience as a grade school counselor preferred
- A Catholic in good-standing who will abide by and uphold the values and teachings of the Catholic Church
- Meet local requirements, as it relates to teaching at a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Detroit. For example, but not limited to, Catechetical Certification, Protecting God’s Children Workshop, Criminal Background Check, etc.
