Detroit Catholic Central High School is an all-boys Catholic college preparatory high school dedicated to providing a rigorous education through the Basilian tradition of Goodness, Discipline & Knowledge. We are expanding our robust STEM and Aviation programs through an exciting partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. We seek a highly qualified and passionate individual to serve as an Aviation Instructor, guiding our students as they explore the fields of aviation and aerospace.
Position Summary
The Aviation Instructor will play a key role in delivering our expanding aviation curriculum, facilitating dual enrollment courses with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and overseeing the Flying Shamrocks Aviation and Aerospace Club. This role requires a dynamic educator with aviation industry experience, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to inspiring young minds.
Responsibilities
- Teach three (3) to four(4) ERAU Dual Enrollment courses, aligning with the university's curriculum and standards.
- Oversee the Flying Shamrocks Aviation and Aerospace Club, coordinating events, guest speakers, and field trips.
- Provide aviation instruction and mentorship to students, supporting their academic and career goals in aviation.
- Maintain and operate Redbird flight simulation equipment, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
- Collaborate with the STEM department to integrate aviation concepts across disciplines.
- Represent the aviation program at school and community events, promoting opportunities within aviation and aerospace.
- Travel to ERAU as needed to complete/renew dual certification as an instructor.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certified Ground Instructor or Advanced Ground Instructor certification required.
- Master’s degree (preferably in Aviation, Education, or a related field).
- Experience in the aviation industry as a pilot with demonstrated flight training experience.
- Strong instructional skills and the ability to engage and motivate high school students.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and maintain flight simulators and related technologies.
- Willingness and ability to travel for training and professional development.
- Completed or willing to complete Archdiocese of Detroit’s Protecting God’s Children course.
- Must submit to drug testing, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Dual enrollment teaching experience.
- Experience leading student clubs or extracurricular programs.
- Familiarity with ERAU’s curriculum and standards.
- FAA Gold Seal Instructor (Gold Seal CFI).
- FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).
- FAA Training Center Evaluator (TCE).
- National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) or Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) Master Flight Instructor.
- Flight operations experience in the U.S. Armed Forces, FAA Part 121, 135 Air Carriers or Part 91 Corporate Flight Department.
