General Position Summary
Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, set up, and repair of parish facilities and grounds. Performs a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties. May perform various routine maintenance and repairs including routine carpentry and plumbing duties based on skill level and experience.
Part time, flexible shifts may include weekend work, typically less than 20 hours weekly: ideal for retirees or individuals looking for additional income.
Principal Accountabilities
- Help with a variety of installations, repair and renovation to buildings including but not limited to electrical fixtures and switches, and semi-skilled tasks in construction, repair and maintenance of wooden structures and articles, painting.
- Installation, repair, and renovation of some equipment including metal and wood equipment, electrical appliances, valves, gas stoves, hot water heaters, sinks, commodes, hand basins, kitchen appliances, heating and cooling systems, sewer lines, irrigation sprinklers.
- Assist with coordination of volunteer groundskeeping resources for cutting and planting of lawns, trees, and shrubs, and watering and fertilizing of the same.
- Moving and transporting furniture, books, and miscellaneous items within building and outer storage units. Set up/break down of tables/chairs as needed for classes, meetings, and overflow Mass.
- Maintains daily work order maintenance logs and works reports which document the time and materials used to complete the project(s).
- Assist with documentation of standard practices associated with key components of new facility (e.g., Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC Systems).
- Removal of snow and ice from campus roadways, parking lots, ramps, and walkways.
- Assist other areas related to overall maintenance of the campus.
- Responsible for all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.
Record Retention Responsibilities
- Securely maintains a current work process binder for each major area of responsibility.
- Secure and orderly storage of vendor, contractor, and contract records.

- This position is under the supervision of the Manager – Facilities and Security

- May supervise numerous volunteers & volunteer activity associated with groundskeeping activity

- Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.
Working Conditions And/or Physical Requirements
- This position works in a typical maintenance shop environment but is subject to completing projects outside on the parish grounds under various weather conditions.
- The physical requirements that can occur frequently are as follows: sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, shoveling, pushing, pulling, talking, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Candidate must be able to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally may need to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely handle drill motor and all hand tools.
- Ability to repair minor equipment, change filters on all AHU and AC equipment, replace all lamps and ballasts in lighting fixtures
- Must be personable and able to effectively communicate and work with staff, contractors, and volunteers.
Travel Requirements
- Infrequent travel, by car may be required.
Education And Experience Preferred
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- One to three years of experience is required, and four to seven years of experience is preferred.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church preferred.
Knowledge And Skills Preferred
- Ability to complete minor repairs and be part of developing plans for major repairs.
- Work with parish staff to identify ongoing maintenance concerns and any necessary preventative maintenance projects.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
- Working knowledge of cleaning/janitorial equipment and supplies which would include safe usage and storage.
- Working knowledge of key building systems. (Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC, etc.)
FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt, Occasional, Less than 20 hours per week. Onsite.
