The Office of Catholic Education provides expertise, experience, and energy to lead and assist those who carry out the education ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland. In steadfast support of our over 40,000 students and their families, the Office works to ensure that each School can deliver strong, positive, vibrant Catholic education for continued growth in academic excellence and faith formation.
Founded in 1947 by Monsignor William Newton, Elyria Catholic High School, the only Catholic high school in Lorain County has educated three generations of families in a nurturing environment and a personalized approach to education. With an ever-increasing enrollment, currently at 480 students in grades nine through twelve, Elyria Catholic strives to advance its mission, "to empower young adults to identify and use their God-given gifts to learn, worship, and serve guided by Catholic tradition."
Elyria Catholic is a Diocesan-owned and operated high schools, which functions under a President/Principal model of school administration. The President serves as the chief operating officer, supported by the Vice President of Philanthropy Engagement, Director of Finance, Director of Marketing, Director of Buildings & Grounds, and additional staff members responsible for marketing, communications, building maintenance, and advancement. The
Principal is the school's chief academic officer, supported by an Assistant Principal of Student Life, Assistant Principal of Academics, and other staff, including guidance, athletics, and all faculty.
Job Overview:
This is a full-time, long-term substitute position. The work schedule is daily from 7:45 am - 3:15 pm.
The ideal candidate for this position believes: Students are granted individual gifts and talents by God to do his work. It is the teacher’s responsibility to develop and foster them. As parents and guardians are the primary educators of their children, teachers must give them the encouragement and opportunity to participate in their child’s intellectual, social, and spiritual formation. The teacher’s primary role is to develop the whole person by passing on the Catholic faith, teaching Gospel values, and providing academic excellence. All students can learn. It is the teacher’s responsibility to provide a variety of instructional approaches to meet learning styles. He or she must foster a love of learning to encourage students to live a life of service to God and others.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching and assisting in five co-taught classes including physical science, and English throughout the school day.
- Teaching a Math I course to two students.
- Assisting students in a resource period and administering data samples to these students.
- Creating an atmosphere in which students feel safe and welcomed.
- Enjoying working with students in the classroom.
- Using various engaging instructional strategies to assist students with learning and meeting course standards.
- Monitoring the progress of individual students and providing feedback to students and parents.
- Supporting students with academic issues and providing encouragement.
- Regularly communicating necessary information to students, team members, and supervisors regarding students’ needs.
- Working collaboratively with staff for the good of students and the school.
- Desiring to grow professionally by partaking in professional development.
Qualifications for this position:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Must be able to obtain a substitute license, intervention specialist licensure preferred.
- Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education. Familiarity with the teachings, traditions, and policies, which apply to formation and development of high school-aged youth.
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.
