he purpose of the Pastoral Assistant position in the parish is to assist the Pastor in four areas of activity: Coordination of Pastoral Care, Liturgy, Evangelization and daily office activity.
He/she will coordinate and facilitate the various programs, projects, and activities within these four areas through direct involvement or the provision of leadership, advice, and assistance as needed. The primary role of the Pastoral Assistant is to be an enabler, seeking out volunteers, encouraging participation, calling forth gifts, providing skills training and support. The Pastoral Assistant will work in cooperation with the Pastor and report to him. Also, the individual will work closely with the Mission Support Director and other parish team members and committees to fulfill the mission of the Parish and in the process promote discipleship among parishioners as they share their time and their talents.
GENERAL PASTORAL MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL TO A JOB DESCRIPTION
Collaborate closely with the Pastor and with other members of the Parish Family Support
staff in the overall pastoral ministry of the parish.
Foster the faith life of the parish community.
Maintain an orderly parish office environment.
Act as director or coordinator in the parish ministries and programs.
Participating in the training, formation, supervision and empowering of others
act as coordinator for parish gatherings, liturgies, social functions, and parish
projects.
Demonstrate an interest in the recruitment and initiation of new members to the parish
community and in the process of evangelization and renewal.
1. Ministry of Worship/Spiritual Life
Develop and facilitate Parish Liturgy Committee for the purpose of planning Sunday and seasonal parish liturgies
Work cooperatively with the Parish Music Coordinators in planning music for liturgy.
Coordinate and develop training resources for parish liturgical ministries Collaborate with and assist those tasked with Sacramental Preparation programs Assist Pastor in planning parish sacramental services as needed
2. Ministry of Pastoral Care
Assist developing and coordinating services and programs for the growth of our parish including; engaging young mothers who drop off their children at the school inviting them to new children programs, parent programs, adults and youth work together on programs such as the Station of the Cross live reenactment...
3. Evangelization and Outreach
Act as a liaison with the Pastor inspiring and inviting others to come to know Jesus via outreach to the neighborhood, schools, stores, Madonna Community college, etc....
Share your passion for Jesus by your daily actions. Being the joy that will attract others to join with you and the Pastor to evangelize.
Encourage involvement by all new people we meet, Catholic and non-Catholic to be a part of our Outreach initiatives.
Manage the updates on all social media to engage, inform and teach.
4. Office
Answer front desk phone and respond in a timely professional manner
Create weekly email campaigns to parishioners and non-parishioners.
Coordinator of weekly bulletin information
Coordinate orders for church and outreach supplies with MSD - seasonal ordering
There will be a transition and training period for all office activities.
Other duties:
• Works with volunteers in establishing and attaining parish ministry goals.
• Serves as a resource person for the Parish Pastoral Council, various parish groups, and religious education programs.
• Assists the Pastor in welcoming and integrating new members into the parish community.
• Maintains a strict level of confidentiality about Church, parish business and parishioner's personal information.
• Find the cover for the substitute priests in absence and/or emergency
• Work with the family of parishes on discipleship formation as needed
• Assists visiting priests with liturgy and travel needs.
JOB SCOPE: The Pastoral Assistant (PA) will encounter new and varied work situations on a daily/weekly basis. He or she must be able to work with a variety of individuals from all levels of society and from all economic groups and be able to organize and coordinate multiple functions with minimal supervision.
COMMUNICATION & CONTACT: The PA must be able to communicate with staff, parishioners, and outside vendors through written, verbal, and digital means. The PA must be able to keep confidential all interactions as the parish staff is often exposed to confidential/sensitive matters.
MEDIA SKILLS: The PA will must be willing to learn the best practices for developing and engaging social media, website and print communication program. Create and publish media content.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS: The PA must understand the Catholic faith and faith development.
He or she must be able to prioritize workload to meet program requirements and can work both independently and as a member of a pastoral team. The PA must be flexible, creative, responsible, and technologically inclined.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The PA must be an active member of a Roman Catholic faith community and be certified or willing to pursue certification as needed.. Prior work experience in parish work or related field is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the PA is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. The ability to lift and move items up to 20 pounds is required.
JOB CONDITION: Work is performed in a church or office setting with daily/weekly deadlines. The PA is required to attend scheduled evening and weekend meetings/functions. This position requires a flexible work schedule.
REQUIREMENTS: In compliance with background check and VIRTUS training requirements. Possess skill in using Microsoft Office programs and communication technology.
