Position Title: Human Resources Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt/Salary

Hours Authorized: Full-time – 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

Effective Date: November 11, 2024

Immediate Supervisors: Pastor/Moderator

General Summary

The Human Resources Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) for the parish and school, including developing and maintaining recruitment strategies, training, enforcing parish and school policies and practice, helping to maintain a positive work environment, administering benefits, and helping our parish fulfill its vision and mission.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Human Resources Committee of the Parish Finance Council to understand and execute St. Hugo of the Hills Parish and School human resources and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
- Manage the talent acquisition process, which includes recruitment, interviewing, hiring with the approval of the Pastor/Moderator, and onboarding qualified applicants.
- Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires and departing employees.
- Prepares new-employee files and benefit enrollment packets.
- Manage the entire hiring process including resume reviews, interviews, reference and background checks, employment offers, new employee onboarding and orientation.
- Partner with Director of Finance to implement orientation and training schedules for all newly hired employees.
- Develop training materials and performance management programs to help ensure employees understand their job responsibilities.
Creates learning and development programs that provide internal development opportunities for employees and supervisors.
- Assist supervisors in performance management procedures
- Provide guidance and support to local supervisors on performance management with the aim of preventing employee concerns and supporting employee development.
Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits, researches and proposes finding to the Parish Finance Council.
Partner with the Human Resources Committee of the Parish Finance Council in employee disciplinary meetings, investigations, and termination.
- Handle employee relations issues and provide guidance on disciplinary actions.
- Conduct exit interviews during the separation process with exiting employees.
In collaboration with the Director of Finance, confirm that the St. Hugo of the Parish and School are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing human resources federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, and maintaining records.
- Retains historical human resources records by designing a filing and retrieval system and keeping past and current records.
- Perform employee file updates and audits as needed to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and all licensing regulations.
- Create and maintain employee files while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and evolving technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and procedures and partners with Human Resources Committee of the Parish Finance Council to update as needed to maintain compliance.
Submit work related injury documentation and incident reports to the Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC).
Maintain the work structure by annually updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
Partner with the Human Resources Committee of the Parish Finance Council in updating the St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Parish and School Personnel Handbook as needed.
In collaboration with the Moderator/Pastor oversee and manage an employee performance appraisal system.
- Partner with Supervisors to ensure employee evaluations are completed on a 90-day, annual, and as needed basis.
Coordinate recognition and employee appreciation activities.
Maintain professional affiliations with professional organizations.
Keep confidential all information which is disclosed while serving in your professional role as a religious authority and representative of the church.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Moderator/Pastor or his delegate.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in human resources
SHRM-CP OR SHRM-SCP highly desired
Three (3) years’ experience in Human Resources
Knowledge or a broad range of human resources strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, hiring and employee relations.
Ability to create a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration and teamwork.
Experience with analyzing data to guide strategic employment planning.
Maintain confidentiality for HR related issues
Must be a person of Christian faith, committed to Gospel values, who will strive to help our parish fulfill its vision and mission.
Must understand or be willing to learn the Catholic culture and parish operations.

Computer skills, Microsoft 365 Word, Excell. Experience or willing to learn the Michigan Catholic Conference information system and the Archdiocese of Detroit “Paycor” software.
