Job Overview:
Holy Name and St. Regis Catholic Churches seek a skilled and diligent Accountant to manage financial and accounting operations of the two parishes through compliance with the Archdiocese of Detroit's financial policies, applicable tax regulations, and labor laws. This role is crucial in supporting the parishs' and associated schools’ financial health and operational integrity. Have an understanding and acceptance of the teachings and values of the Catholic Church integral to the organizational mission and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day financial tasks, including payroll processing through Paycor, reviewing payroll tax summaries and returns, invoicing tuition and facilitating grants via the FACTS system, and performing monthly reconciliations and journal entries. Coordinate the preparation of realistic budgets for the parish and school and manage ongoing budget performance.
- Prepare financial reports, analyze budget variances, and present findings to the parishes ministry heads and parish and Family Finance Councils.
- Oversee the preparation of the annual Forecast School Model and assess the fiscal impact of various initiatives.
- Prepare and review the annual financial reports for the parishes and schools, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of annual governmental reports, including ACA Form 1095-C, Form 1099-MISC, and other tax-related documents.
- Support parish and school fundraising activities by ensuring compliance with relevant licensing and tax regulations.
- Supervise bookkeeping staff whose duties include but are not limited to recording transactions, processing checks, managing accounts receivable and payable, and donations from parishioners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently, adapt to change in routine and multi-task.
- Willingness to work independently and collaboratively.
