The Immigration Representative I aids Immigration Representatives II and III with the consultation, processing and submitting USCIS application forms including Family Based Petitions, U-Visa’s, T-Visa’s, Naturalization, and other immigration legal services. While providing support, the Immigration Representative I is trained by the Immigration Representative II and Immigration Representative III.
Essential Functions
- Revision of immigration petitions and applications to assure accuracy and appropriateness; consultative and technical advice to clients on immigration regulations; training on immigration regulations and procedures.
- Schedule and confirm appointments per program procedures in every DOJ Recognized office, including Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa, Family Justice Center of Santa Rosa, and rural areas throughout the Dioceses.
- Maintain client information in program database and reports.
- Translation of identification certificates from Spanish to English and preparing packets for clients.
- Maintain physical client records, collect client fees, and write receipts per agency and program procedures.
- Guide and support volunteers completing clerical tasks.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of immigration services such as community workshops and group processing clinics and outreach and promotion within service area.
- Assist Immigration Representatives II and III with applications, translations, contacting clients, among others.
- Work with clients when/where needed. Travel throughout service area for workshops and/or outreach. Meet with clients during evenings, as needed.
- Ability to apply for DOJ Accreditation within seven months after assignment to the Immigration Representative I position.
- Familiarity with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position in particular and the program or department overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures.
- Participation in training to enhance skill development, use of best practice standards, and in performance and quality improvement efforts.

- Work with Diocese of Santa Rosa and local parishes as appropriate and requested.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Minimum one years’ experience working in a complex office setting, ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends as needed, required; bachelor’s degree or associate degree related to social work and/or law, three to six months experience working in immigration legal services, preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), passing score on the Catholic Charities’ test of oral and written Spanish fluency required.
- Previous experience or involvement with immigrant community, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to serve clients in a professional, welcoming, and efficient manner.
- Strong organizational ability; attention to detail and accuracy and demonstrated ability to learn technical and legal information. Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Cooperative, friendly, solution-oriented, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the program or department, and throughout the agency.
- Computer literacy required, including experience with Office 365 suite.
- Proficiency in Windows, database programs, Microsoft Office suite, and the specialized software used by the Immigration Program.
- Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients.
- Valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation. Must be willing and able to travel between agency sites.
- Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s policies prior to start of employment.
