FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay: $26/hr.
The Director of Faith Formation is a member of the parish staff. The Director has overall responsibility for the parish catechetical formation for children and adults.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordination and Administration
- Serves as a member of the parish staff and administration team. Participates in decision-making regarding total parish direction and activities. Attending all staff meetings, faith formation team meetings, prayer days and educational days.
- Leads the Faith Formation Team, principally the family catechesis program and the Order of Christian Initiation Program. Confirmation is under youth ministry, a separate division, but this position works closely with the youth minister to ensure continuity and cohesion in catechetical programing.
- Forms a team of young adults to plan and promote activities and programs for young adults in parish, which includes young parents in Our Lady’s School. Is present for the execution of those activities and programs.
- Manages the faith formation portion of the parish budget.
- Is responsible for creating ways and making sure all catechist and youth leaders have basic certification through the diocese.
- Is responsible for Virtus Training and background checks for personnel and volunteers under their supervision.
Program Content and Development
- Approves and coordinates the various curricula for family and adult sacramental formation.
- Oversees regular evaluations of catechetical programming for family and adult catechesis. Cooperates with faith formation leaders of other local parishes and of the diocese in developing and maintaining training and certification for catechists.
- 4. Maintains a Young Adult Ministry calendar of events, activities, and programs. Helps communicate these events to the broader community.
Supervision
- Supervises and evaluates the ministry effectiveness of volunteer catechists for family and adult catechesis programs as well as volunteers for young adult ministry.
- Supervises and evaluates office support personnel for faith formation department.
Requirements
- Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process
Skills and Abilities:
- The position requires demonstrated competence in the following areas: Writing and Speaking Communication Skills; Program Development
- Employee Coaching & Supervision; Catechist Development; Recruitment of volunteers; Passion for working with young adults.
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
- MA in Theology/Faith Formation, Education or Educational Administration or related field as well as demonstrated competence in theology, catechetics, administration, educational methods, and supervision.
- Proven experience in working effectively with volunteers.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
