Position Summary
Walsh University is currently seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Counseling and Human Development (CHD) Program. The Graduate Assistant will assist with various tasks in support of the CHD program, interacting with faculty and students. The Graduate Assistant is a master’s level student enrolled in the CHD program by the time of his/her appointment as a GA and throughout his/her graduate studies at Walsh. Only students in good academic standing or fully admitted to pursue a degree in Counseling and Human Development will be considered for this position.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Initiating and completing assigned tasks, such as creating and compiling training manuals and resources in support of the CHD program, faculty, and students.
- Assisting faculty with their scholarship projects (e.g., literature reviews, gathering materials for professional presentations, etc.).
- Assisting faculty with psychological assessments (e.g., ordering, maintaining resources, etc.).
- Maintaining CHD GA group site in Office 365 and creating electronic files for data storage.
- Responding to immediate and varying full-time faculty, contingency faculty, and Program Chair requests for assistance on various projects (e.g., assessment and accreditation, marketing of events), courses, etc.
- Responding to student and staff needs in a timely fashion.
- Maintaining files, email distribution lists, and disseminating information related to the program.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Graduate Assistants must have the ability to work independently with minimal instructions. They will work 20 hours each week and this may include untraditional office hours since the program is being offered online, working with students and faculty who are located in various time zones. Though there will be some required or opportunities for “remote work,” only students who are able to maintain office hours on a consistent basis at the Walsh University campus in North Canton, OH, will be considered for the position.

Education: Bachelor’s degree and enrolled as a Walsh University graduate student in Counseling and Human Development.

- Requires competence at both entry-level skills and more advanced professional skills.
Skills And Abilities
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
- The Graduate Assistant must be able to work independently and also collaboratively with the Office Manager, the Program Chair, and the program faculty.
- Must have proficient technology skills, including data entry and competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular).
- Must also have good communication skills and interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, and students.
- Must maintain a high level of ethical conduct in approaching and/or disseminating sensitive information and managing confidential data and records (e.g., per FERPA).
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work untraditional hours as needed to support the CHD program
