General Introduction
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (
Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (
Apostolorum Successores 177). Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
General Summary Of Essential Purpose
This intern position will work on two projects. The first will be new ways of reaching out to concerned Catholics to foster a deeper understanding of Catholic Social Teaching (CST), especially as it relates to immigration and migration. Importantly, these efforts will include preparing and supporting people in sharing Catholic Social Teaching and explicitly grounding their ministry and support for immigrants in Catholic teaching and theology. The second project will encourage, support, and organize concerned Catholics to advocate for the just and humane treatment of immigrants. The intern will also have the opportunity to learn about other chancery ministries and offices. This position is for 12 weeks at up to 32 hours per week starting in Mid-May 2025. Funding for this position comes through cost savings in the Immigrant and Refugee Ministry budget and requires no additional funding.
Essential Position Duties
- Catholic Social Teaching. Explore and develop new ways to reach out to concerned Catholics to keep them informed and raise awareness and understanding of how CST informs responses to current events. This may include articles, virtual or in-person gatherings, crafting new resources, implementing educational activities, etc. The intern will also explore the ways Catholics currently access news and information about the local and US Church and promote ways to stay informed.
- Advocacy. In response to current events and opportunities, provide orientation, support and help to organize people to advocate for the just and humane treatment of immigrants. This may include letter writing, contacting elected officials, talking with family and friends, etc. This will be done with special attention to community-building and developing lay leaders who can continue the work after the intern has completed their position.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained ministers.
Education
- Currently enrolled in college or recently graduated with an interest in Catholic social teaching and social justice ministries.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience project coordination and communications.
Other Elements
- Demonstrated successful ability to accomplish goals through collaboration and organization.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals and groups of diverse ethnic and
cultural backgrounds.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
