General Introduction
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (
Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (
Apostolorum Successores 177).
Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
General Summary Of Essential Purpose (youth Ministry)
The Associate Director of Youth Ministry Services supports the work of the Lifelong Formation Department. This position will work collaboratively with team members, parishes, and other identified groups to provide support, formation, and resources for all youth, including those from the multicultural communities, to grow in their relationship with Jesus and engage as missionary disciples. Additionally, the Associate Director of Youth Ministry Services helps to ensure all Archdiocesan youth ministry efforts extend the mission and vision of the Church as communicated by the Archbishop.
Essential Position Duties
- Develops and implements programs and projects to foster youth leadership development from the earliest stages (6th grade -12th grade). This includes an annual youth leadership retreat and can be expanded to service and immersion trips.
- Re-envisions the Ascend Youth Leadership Retreat to meet the leadership development needs of today’s young people. Develops, implements, oversees, supervises and evaluates this annual event. Coordination involves assembling a planning team of youth ministers and volunteers, hosting regular planning meetings, establishing theme, retreat schedule, activities, and leadership development opportunities that will be relevant for youth in grades 9-12 from a variety of backgrounds. Assures coordination of all logistics (e.g. location reservations, food ordering, binder prep, etc.).
- Supports the Catholic LifeSaver Corps (CLC), a peer-to-peer suicide prevention imitative, by serving as the liaison between parish leaders and school or parish-based CLC teams. Schedules safeTALK workshops in coordination with parish staff and CLC team leaders. Secures ASIST-trained community resource adults for each workshop. Provides parishes with needed promotional materials to advertise safeTALK. Assures delivery of safeTALK workshop materials in advance of each training. Collaborates regularly with Mental Health Ministry leaders.
- Develops, implements, oversees, and evaluates a new ministry internship program for youth in parishes. Facilitates cohort training retreats and events. Supports parish leaders to establish appropriate intern positions. Assists with the scheduling and formation of the Chancery’s student associates from Cristo Rey High School.
- Assists with the planning of events and programs for middle school and high school youth such as the Catholic Youth Convention, Middle School Encounter, Confirmation Retreats, Local versions of national/global Church events, and other scheduled youth activities.
- Supports the Director of Youth Ministry Services with meetings and retreats for the Archdiocesan Youth Council.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
- Be a practicing Catholic, completely faithful to the Church and the Magisterium and have a strong and disciplined prayer life.
- Possess a heart for the New Evangelization.
- Bilingual preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, Religious Study, Youth Ministry or other related field preferred.
- Associate’s degree required.
Experience
- Demonstrated ability to evangelize and communicate the faith.
- Knowledge of and experience in retreats, event planning and leadership development for youth.
- Experience working with people with varying ecclesial, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in supporting committees and leadership groups preferred.
Other Elements
- Excellent communications skills both verbal and written, ideally in more than one language.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated competency in digital communications tools.
- Strong demonstrated competence in interpersonal and public relations skills including the ability to work collaboratively with Chancery staff, school personnel, pastors, and parish ministers.
- Ability to work on evenings and weekends.
- Ability to provide own transportation, must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
