Position Summary
This Liturgy Coordinator and Cathedral Curator is responsible for assisting the Archbishop of Omaha in his episcopal role as chief liturgist of the archdiocese and head of Saint Cecilia Cathedral, providing ceremonial leadership and direction for ministers of the liturgy at events of greater importance at the Cathedral, including the development of local parish ministers. Additionally, this individual collaborates with the Office of the Chancellor to curate archdiocesan artistic patrimony on the cathedral campus.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordination with the Cathedral Rector and Archdiocesan Master of Ceremonies for archdiocesan liturgies and those liturgies when the archbishop is present throughout the year.
- Assistance to the Cathedral Rector for cathedral liturgies, confirmations, graduations, and similar large-scale liturgies, as requested.
- Assistance to the Cathedral Rector in the formation and training of sacristans and other liturgical ministers of the cathedral.
- Coordination of liturgical ministers for archdiocesan liturgies.
- Planning and directing of rehearsals for archdiocesan liturgies.
- Collaboration with the Cathedral Sacristan and Office of Divine Worship staff in preparation for liturgies.
- Collaboration with Facilities Manager, Flower Guild, and other pertinent stakeholders in the seasonal liturgical decoration of the cathedral interior.
- Oversight of stocking of adequate liturgical supplies for the cathedral.
- Curation of the Spanish Colonial Collection, Vestment & Liturgical Garment Archive, Kimball Archive, Cathedral Museum, and Sunderland Gallery, including maintenance, restoration, accession, disposition, and publicity.
- Serve as liaison between the Cathedral Arts Project and both the cathedral and Office of Divine Worship.
- Collaborate with cathedral staff for the ongoing maintenance and development of the cathedral building, interior and exterior.
- Collaborate with the cathedral staff regarding regular maintenance that impacts the visual and aural artistic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy.
- Working knowledge of art history and cathedral history.
- Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Excellent organization – detail oriented.
- Working knowledge of the different cultures and ministerial settings within the Archdiocese of Omaha.
- Ability to work within a budget.
Education And Experience
- Active, practicing Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church, with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
- Bachelor’s degree in music, liturgical studies, fine arts or a relevant field required.
- Graduate degree in music, liturgical studies, fine arts or a relevant field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of liturgical experience preferred.
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups.
Travel Requirements
- Presence at large diocesan events required, as requested by the Archbishop.
