Camp Lifeguard for Camp Happiness of Catholic Charities will perform all duties pertaining to the Lifeguard position. The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals at the swimming pool or aquatic locations by monitoring pool areas, enforcing safety rules, and providing first aid or emergency response as necessary. The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly in high-pressure situations.
Responsibilities:
- Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and all relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
- Monitor Pool Area: Continuously observe pool users to identify potential hazards, unsafe behavior, or emergencies.
- Enforce Safety Rules: Educate and enforce pool rules to ensure the safety of all swimmers, including children and non-swimmers.
- Respond to Emergencies: Quickly and effectively respond to water emergencies, including performing water rescues, first aid, CPR, and administering life-saving techniques when needed.
- Maintain a Safe Environment: Ensure the pool area is free from hazards, including maintaining a clean and organized pool deck, inspecting pool equipment, and checking water quality.
- Prevent Accidents: Proactively identify potential hazards and take steps to prevent accidents, including advising swimmers on safe practices and appropriate swimming conditions.
- Assist with Pool Maintenance: Ensure proper readings are taken and logged; Report any pool-related maintenance issues, including malfunctioning equipment, pool cleanliness, or water level concerns.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of incidents, rescues, accidents, or injuries, and report them to the Pool Manager or appropriate authority.
- Customer Service: Interact professionally with swimmers, parents, and guests, answering questions and providing assistance in a friendly and approachable manner.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other lifeguards, pool staff, and management to ensure smooth operations of the facility.
- Training and Drills: Participate in regular training sessions, drills, and refresher courses to stay current on life-saving techniques and pool safety procedures.
- When on duty, secure pool key and open swimming pool.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
Requirements:
- Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School diploma or equivalent with six months to a year prior experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current certification in CPR/First Aid; American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training certification.
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be well organized, detail oriented and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to show patience and courtesy when working with people.
- Flexible and good at working in a team atmosphere.
- Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
