About the Position: Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Catholic and Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking a College Counselor beginning with the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate will possess a network of college and university resources and contacts along with proven experience in providing organized support and counseling to junior and senior students and families in their college search. This position works actively to monitor the progress and completion of college applications and participates in all activities required to sustain and advance a productive and dynamic college advising program. Primary areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: Individual Counseling: Conducting 1-1 and family meetings to counsel a caseload of approximately 75 juniors and 75 seniors. This includes all aspects of the college application process, including researching potential colleges, preparing application materials, and meeting application deadlines. This also includes providing information and guidance on opportunities other than a four-year college experience, not limited to but including the trades, community college, the military, and a gap year. Group counseling: Assisting with all college counseling programs throughout the school year (occasionally before or after school hours or summer experiences) including group information sessions, college fairs, and college representative visits. This position will teach group sessions, including Freshman Seminar and our Advisory program. Testing and assessment: Provide information to students about standardized tests and guide students with planning and preparing for tests. Support students and families with interpreting and understanding their results and ways to improve to meet their goals.
Professional Development: Attend local, regional, and national college and professional conferences/workshops (occasionally before or after school hours, or on weekends) to keep updated on admission trends, and to network and develop relationships with college representatives and colleagues. Be an active member of virtual affinity groups with the Jesuit Schools Network. Documentation and Platform Management: Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, student applications, and other relevant information. Manage the caseload of students on Scoir. Update the student learning management system (Canvas) with relevant information and due dates. Financial Aid Guidance: Collaborate with College Now Financial Aid advisor to assist students and families with navigating the financial aid process. Provide information on financial planning and the true cost of college.
Qualifications: A minimum of 5 years experience in high school college counseling department preferred, prior school counseling, social work, and education experience will be considered. Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred. School counseling licensure or mental health licensure required. With the evolving nature of school counseling in the high school setting, our College Counseling team must be committed to the social emotional needs of their caseload and interested in working with freshmen and sophomores as well. The successful candidate will also possess the following: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Exemplary interpersonal and relational qualities. Computer literacy and knowledge of Scoir, Canvas, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office package preferred. Willingness and flexibility to assist with occasional programming before or after school hours and on weekends Commitment to the goals, objectives and mission of Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory high school. A desire to participate in the extracurricular life of the school and faith formation programs. About Saint Ignatius High School: Saint Ignatius High School is a Jesuit college-preparatory school with a Catholic tradition rooted in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The school enrolls more than 1,450 students from 40 cities in a seven-county region.
