Position Description
St. Therese Catholic School is seeking an experienced educator for the Assistant
Principal Position. The ideal candidate is highly organized and attentive to details, has
experience coaching or supervising teachers, is up-to-date on knowledge of best practices in
education, has designed professional development, and has implemented PLCs
(Professional Learning Communities) with teachers.
Administration
*Work with the principal to implement programs and practices that ensure academic
excellence, spiritual and moral development, and vital community development for
staff, students and parents.
*Apply a Catholic educational vision to the daily activities of the school.
*Apply the skills of organizational management, delegation of responsibilities and
communication in staff and parent communities.
*Effectively manage conflicts among students, staff and parents through sound
intervention practices.
*Provide for an orderly and structured school environment and support discipline
interventions within the school.
*Support the parish – school and diocese – school connections. Integrate the
strategies for each into school action plans.
Faith Development
*Help nurture the faith development of faculty, staff and students.
*Work with parish and school staff to provide active opportunities for the school
community to celebrate weekly Mass, semi-annual reconciliation services, and other
prayer experiences.
Academic Leadership
*Provide leadership for curriculum development at the school level, including the
integration of the Catholic faith.
*Guide teachers in the processes of resource selections and implementation.
*Ensure the implementation of the academic standards/benchmarks of the Diocese of
Kansas City-St. Joseph and the State of Missouri for all subject areas.
*Demonstrate an understanding of effective formative and summative structures for
evaluating student learning.
*Lead teachers in creating assessments that are differentiated including opportunities in
the areas of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning.
*Recognize accommodations required for students with special learning needs within
full-inclusion classrooms.
Supervision
*Assist in the recruitment, interview, selection and orientation for new school staff.
*Collaboratively plan for annual orientation days and ongoing professional development
days for all school staff.
*Work with individual teachers to develop and evaluate annual professional learning
plans.
*Regularly observe, coach and give feedback to assigned group of teachers and staff.
*Assist the principal with end of the year evaluations.
Community Relationships
*Recognize, respect and help facilitate the role of parents as the primary educators of
their children.
*Earn the trust of school stakeholders through consistent honesty, Christian charity and
professionalism in all interactions.
*Use strong verbal and written communication skills to build effective relationships,
exchange information clearly and concisely, and deliver ideas in a professional
manner.
Professional
*Protect the rights of and maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff and families
as well as general school matters.
*Keep accurate and appropriate records.
*Promote a sense of collaboration and teamwork, share information and learning, and keep others informed to help promote school, parish and diocesan goals.
Requirements
Requirements
- Familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an asset.
- Achieved or working towards a Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum or Administration
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience, Catholic school experience preferred, middle school teaching experience preferred
