The High School Principal, with no President, in the Diocese of Harrisburg is responsible for the spiritual and educational leadership and the administration of the school, which seeks to offer high quality academic programs that are integrated with religious truths and values. The Principal strives to provide the opportunity for the students to be prepared for life in today's Church and society through a strong basic and contemporary curriculum and through instruction and formation in the beliefs, values, and traditions of the Catholic Church.

In general, administrative tasks include: organization of the school so that appropriate religious formation and learning can take place; development of a competent faculty and staff; development and implementation of an appropriate curriculum; provision for the safety, welfare, and care of the students while they are attending school; management of the physical facilities of the school; management of the financial and business affairs of the school as determined by the approved budget by the Board of Directors, development of good school-community relationships and involvement in all aspects of the Development Program.

The expectations for achieving the above tasks are the following:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Ensures that the educational program is professionally administered, renewed and evaluated and is consistent with the needs of the students, the requirements of the Diocese and the State and provides for the future needs of the students whether college bound or work-force bound.
2) Leads in communicating the vision, mission, and strategic plan to the school and local community, in keeping with expectations of the Diocese and local pastors.
3) To administer the school according to Diocesan and local policies.
4) To give leadership for achieving the goals of Catholic education.
5) To show evidence of knowledge of the Catholic Philosophy of Education.
6) To work towards the creation of a Catholic community within the school.
7) To provide opportunities for prayer and the sacraments for staff and students.
8) To maintain open channels for two-way communications with all segments of the school clientele.
9) To show respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with others.
10) Supervises and supports the work of the Director of Advancement by participating regularly in visits, whether on or off-site, with those alumni, potential donors and foundations, business, and community leaders.
11) Is accountable to the Board of Directors and the Secretary for Education.
12) Will conduct a written annual evaluation for each direct report.
13) Will hold an annual in-person evaluation review meeting with each direct report.

RELATIONSHIP WITH BOARD OF DIRECTORS
1) Prepares for and attends meetings of the Board of Directors.
2) To be accountable to the Board for all school concerns, executing and implementing its policies and directives in coordination with those of the Catholic Schools Department.
3) To prepare the necessary background material for local policy formation and long-range planning.
4) To update the Board on current educational trends, issues, new laws, and other in-service matters that will be useful to them.
5) To assist the Board in the preparation of the annual budget and to administer and monitor the approved budget within the designated parameters.
6) To confer regularly and frequently with the Chairperson of the Board of Education.
7) Presents annually a financial report, a copy of which report shall be filed with the minutes of the annual meetings.

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DIOCESE
1) Understands the reserved powers of the Episcopal Member as stated in the By-Laws.
2) Complies with directives from the Diocese of Harrisburg.
3) Maintains open lines of communication with the Diocese of Harrisburg.
4) Prepares for and attends meetings at the Diocese of Harrisburg.

LEADERSHIP OF FACULTY AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
1) To hire and assign teachers and staff in accordance with Diocesan policies.
2) To provide orientation and ongoing in-service for the faculty according to their needs.
3) To direct and involve the faculty in an ongoing program of philosophy and Mission Statement evaluation, curriculum assessment, and planning for instructional improvement.
4) To assist the entire faculty and staff in the integration of the Catholic Philosophy of Education into the curriculum.
5) To ensure the implementation of the Diocesan Religion curriculum and a spiritual and religious formation program for the faculty, staff, and students.
6) To promote the growth of the faculty and staff through ongoing supervision and evaluation.
7) To diversify the curriculum to serve the scope of abilities, talents, interests, and needs of students.
8) To be familiar with all textbooks and instructional materials used throughout the school.
9) To devise a plan for the regular replacement of textbooks and materials.
10) To assist teachers in the guidance, assessment, and analysis of student achievement.
11) To provide the faculty with materials and resources necessary for their assigned tasks.
12) To conduct monthly faculty meetings and to provide opportunities for faculty involvement in the agenda preparation.
13) To oversee the scheduling of classes and daily lesson planning by teachers.

MANAGEMENT AND RECORD-KEEPING
1) To develop and communicate routine procedures for the operation of the school.
2) To publish rules, regulations, schedules, and procedures, and to be consistent in expectations regarding them.
3) To maintain discipline throughout the school so that a learning environment prevails.
4) To unify expectations for high academic standards throughout the school.
5) To implement fire, tornado, health, and safety codes in the school and on the school grounds.
6) To provide appropriate maintenance and cleanliness of the school for the safety and well-being of the students.
7) To meet deadlines with official school reports and statistics as required by Diocesan and State personnel.
8) To keep school files organized in a professional manner.
9) To maintain an up-to-date professional file for each teacher.
10) To be responsible for overseeing that accurate and up-to-date cumulative, attendance, and health records are kept on every student.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCES
1) Oversees the annual budget process in consultation with the Board Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
2) Oversees and approves all the expenditure of funds according to the budget set by the Board of Directors.
3) Oversees the development of an overall financial plan for the school, working with the Board Finance Committee and Board of Directors to develop and implement a long-range financial plan.
4) Oversees the collection of all funds received in the School's name.
5) Supervises all Finance Office Staff.
6) Is consultative to the Finance Committee.

DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT, ADMISSIONS, AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT.
1) Oversees the other school organizations with regard to their fundraising activities.
2) Directs the financial aid program.
3) Oversees efforts in admissions and enrollment management.
4) Oversees admissions staff.
5) Direct the public relations function of the Advancement Office.
6) Oversee the recruitment and retention of students.
7) Manage Relationships with all foundations.
8) Supervises all Advancement Staff.

DIRECTOR OF PROPERTY AND GROUNDS
1) Oversees the maintenance of the physical plant.
2) Develops both short and long-range maintenance and improvement goals in conjunction with the Head of Maintenance.
3) Supervises all Maintenance Staff.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
1) To provide opportunities for regular conferences and meetings of parents and teachers.
2) To provide channels for parent involvement and input in curriculum and school policies.
3) To alert parents to the special needs and/or problems of their children.
4) To keep parents informed through regular school bulletins.
5) To cooperate with, and help to promote, the various programs for the school.
6) To represent the school to the general community.
7) To develop and maintain public relations with and among appropriate publics.

PERFORMANCE REVIEW
1) To engage in the Secondary Principal's Personal Performance Review
2) To engage in an annual Secondary Principal's Performance Review with the Chairperson of the Board of Directors and the Secretary for Education.
3) To complete the Secondary Principal's Performance Review SUMMARY Form
4) To update the Secondary Principal's Professional Update annually

EDUCATIONAL/ WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1) Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field; however, a Master's degree is strongly preferred. Appropriate proven experience will be considered in lieu of the advanced degrees.
2) Minimum five years of progressive leadership and management in the field of education or an organization of equivalent complexity.
3) Excellent communication skills.
4) Demonstrates instructional leadership and managerial skills in education, team building, technology, advancement, and finance.
5) Demonstrates a record of achievement in leading and managing organizations, dealing with financial challenges, and a record of significant fund-raising success.
6) Sound knowledge of overall operations of a secondary school, including academics, finances, alumni relations, care and maintenance of school' s physical facilities.

The job of the Secondary Principal also shall include such other duties as assigned by the Secretary for Education or the Board.
