Job Title: Coordinator, Religious Education Status: Part-time

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Department/Location: Our Lady of the Valley Parish / Green Valley, AZ

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Director of Religious Education (DRE), is responsible for assisting the DRE with the coordination of the Religious Education program for Our Lady of the Valley Parish. The coordinator shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this Ministerial Position:

Perform as a lay ecclesial minister in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
Assist in articulating a vision within the community to include an assessment of needs, setting of priorities, setting of goals and objectives, and the implementation of plans of action.
Recommend changes to and coordinate curriculum, assess needs, incorporate prayer, service, and outreach at all levels.
Assist the DRE in administering Religious Education programs to include program coordination, assign catechists and volunteers, fill in at Catechist absent as needed, and keep sacramental records for recording.
Assist in recruiting and assist in the formation of Catechists, including Catechist education and training, adhering to Diocesan guidelines.
Coordinate, as necessary, activities with Diocesan/Parish staff.
Availability to work Sunday through Wednesday when Confirmation students/classes are in session and possible overtime may be required for Steubenville West, Live Teen, and retreats.
Assist in planning retreats for Confirmation and attending as needed.
Availability to work Monday through Thursday 4-hour days when classes are not in session.
Maintain contact lists for Parish families and catechists, organize all student files.
Maintain records for Circle of Grace.
Follow up with families who had an absent student.
Possibly assuming a leadership role in Circle of Grace, if teaching background or willing to receive training.
Ensure adherence to personnel policy guidelines and other parish and diocesan guidelines.
Prepare reports as necessary.
Assist with ensuring adherence to the Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment requirements. Communication with Parish Compliance Officer regarding Safe Environment status for catechists and teacher aides.
Assist in drafting and implementation of Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) for youth activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned for Faith Formation program.

Basic Qualifications:

Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; be in full communion with the Church.
Must possess knowledge of working with ParishSoft software, platform used by Parish. Print out sign in/sign out sheets and enter attendance in ParishSoft.
Must have experience in operating copiers, printers, proficiency in Microsoft Windows Suite – Word, Excel, Publisher are used extensively.
Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills. Patience and act with respect towards children, catechists, staff, parish families, and all parishioners.

Must be a self-starter; highly organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times.
Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets, and power point.
Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
Ability to successfully pass a background and criminal history check.

Education and Experience:

An associate degree in business, education or public administration or equivalent experience.
1-2 years’ experience in a Catholic religious education environment as an educator or practicing catechist.
Level 1 catechetical certification or equivalent education.

Other/Preferred Skills:

Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Level 2 catechetical certification or equivalent education preferred.
