Description:
In a collaborative spirit of teamwork, the Communications Secretariat is responsible for all key internal and external messages of the Diocese of Orlando, ensuring effective, anticipatory, and responsive communications to all in service of the Church and those seeking engagement with the Church. The Communications Coordinator will help communicate the Gospel message in a variety of ways to engage and compel people to enkindle a deeper faith and to be formed as leaders in Christ.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responds to work assignments and projects generated by the director in a timely manner and provides regular status updates on projects with estimated timelines for completion. Provides various administrative duties to support the director.
- Creates engaging content for various social media platforms, websites, and videos.
- Gathers, synthesizes, and creates reports on statistical analysis, including website and social media analytics, to establish the effectiveness of the communication strategy.
- Researches, creates content and provides editorial assistance for Florida Catholic Media (Orlando edition).
- Responsible for copy editing using the Catholic News Service (CNS) and Associated Press (AP) stylebooks.
- Drafts media releases, bulletin announcements, and content for newsletters, podcasts, and videos.
- Ensures that the writing is free from libel and conforms to the ethical standards of the profession.
- Maintains a database of media organizations and contacts within them.
- Maintains a database of parish bulletin editors, webmasters, and managers of social media.
- Contributes and assists in strategic planning and provides administrative support with communication strategies and initiatives.
- Maintains an accurate and detailed department calendar.
- Responsible to pay great attention to the schedule of the director with special awareness to deadlines, recurring important dates, obligations, and commitments of the director, and provides timely reminders as necessary.
- Updates and maintains various databases to include the news media list.
- Evaluates and contributes to marketing efforts to ensure accurate messaging and maintains the diocesan brand.
- Creates neat and professional correspondences as assigned by the director; free from error and with proper grammar and English; proofreads and edits materials; duplicates and distributes materials as necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of correspondence, conversations, and materials processed in/through the department and its component offices/departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

CATHOLIC FAITH

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Theology or related area
- Experience with writing for various platforms, including print, video, podcasts, email, and experience with multi-tasking and juggling deadlines and priorities is needed.
- Must have proficiency with technical/web skills to be able to create and publish content for the web. Good design skills helpful. Social media scheduling skills helpful. Photoshop, Word Press, Publisher and InDesign software knowledge helpful.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church and its teachings are required.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English helpful.

- Able to quickly earn the confidence of those with whom this individual collaborates and coordinates information, including other secretariat heads, directors, members of various diocesan and parish committees, and clergy.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, Church documents, communication plans, articles, and periodicals.
- Ability to write well and condense large amounts of information into smaller and more easily understood and interesting text.
- Must communicate accurate teachings of the Catholic faith and use appropriate resources such as catechism, Bible, USCCB and Vatican website.
- Superb organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Reliable, insured vehicle and ability to travel within Diocese of Orlando is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working hours of this position is limited to an 8-hour day with a schedule responsive to parish hours of service. The individual must have flexibility to work weekends in order to cover parish/school/entity celebrations/events. He or she must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
