The Director of Development is responsible for executing the development efforts, supervising the development office, cultivating relationships, establishing yearly fundraising goals, and deepening the culture of philanthropy among benefactors and members of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, Inc. The Province is a Catholic congregation of priests and brothers dedicated to the glory of God by spreading the spirit and doctrine of Saint Francis de Sales.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Management
- Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of the Province's fundraising efforts, including but not limited to annual giving, events, campaigns, in-house mailings, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
- Coordinates development plans, initiatives and events across the Province.
- Creates new initiatives for raising funds and cultivating relationships.
- Collaborates and consults with the Development Advisory Board and committees.
- Establishes, measures and meets annual fundraising goals.
Operations
- Review and document processes and procedures to streamline development efforts across the Province.
- Supervises the development office staff of two by providing direction, ongoing feedback, and an annual review based on the job descriptions for each position.
- Collaborates with the Director of Provincial Administration to develop a budget and establish benchmarks per Province guidelines.
- Works with the Director of Province Administration on gift reporting and gift restrictions to ensure all gifts are processed and acknowledged appropriately per the Province's requirements and the donors' requests.
Communications
- Collaborates with the Communications Team on development materials to ensure development and communication programs align through paper and digital outreach to Oblates, friends, and benefactors.
Donor Relations
- Cultivates relationships with Oblate donors, friends, benefactors, and apostolates.
- Builds a culture of philanthropy among benefactors and members of the province.
- Attends Oblate, Oblate-affiliated, and donor-related events to further develop a network of friends and benefactors.
Data Management and Reporting
- Oversees the management of the DonorPerfect database - documenting solicitations, managing and analyzing data on donors, major gifts, development programs, and events.
- Leverages data to regularly report on donor engagement, goals, events, campaigns, and other metrics of success. Makes recommendations based on this data.
Event Management
- Oversees planning, execution, evaluation and follow-up of fundraising events.
- Develops and maintains volunteers and planning committees to help manage and grow the Business Network, Live Jesus!, and their related events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in development or fundraising.
- Proven track record of success in development efforts, including annual giving, events, campaigns, in-house mailings, major gifts and planned giving.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficient in DonorPerfect or other fundraising software.
Leadership:
- Strong management skills with a collaborative leadership style.
- Motivated to innovate and creatively solve problems and maximize opportunities.
- Strong work ethic, competitive nature, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
Communication:
- Superior communication and presentation skills to express the Oblate mission, vision, and goals with clarity, passion and persuasion.
- Ability to interact positively with all the constituencies - Provincial, Council, Oblates, apostolate staffs, donors, and volunteers.
REQUIRMENTS
- Willingness to learn the mission of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and the Roman Catholic Church.
- Regular attendance at the Provincial offices (Wilmington, DE) and Development Office (Childs, MD).
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for meetings and events.
- Ability to travel to Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and other locations periodically for meetings and events.
- Ability to drive; must maintain a valid drivers’ license.
