The Associate Director is responsible for developing and executing the content strategy to advance the mission of the Archdiocese of Detroit and serve the creative and content needs of the archdiocese's departments, offices and ministries. The Associate Director leads a team of content creators, manages content production, and ensures all content aligns with the organization's objectives and branding guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Content Strategy
- In close collaboration with the Director of Communications, develop and implement a comprehensive content strategy that advances the Archdiocese of Detroit’s mission priorities and goals.
- Oversee the creation of high-quality content, including print publications, articles, videos, social media, podcasts, and other digital media.
- Ensure all content is accurate, aligned with Catholic teaching, engaging, and adheres to brand guidelines.
Team Leadership
- Lead and manage the team of content creators, including writers, editors, designers, and video and audio producers.
- Identify, hire, and manage creative and content freelancers and contractors—photographers, videographers, motion graphics artists, voice talent, video production crews, writers, editors, etc.—to supplement the in-house content team.
- Manage contracts, budgets, and payments for freelance and contract work.
- Build and maintain a network of reliable and talented freelance content creators.
Collaboration and Communication
- As a member of the Department of Communications Leadership Team, contribute to planning and executing strategic department and organization communications goals.
- Collaborate with the other department associate directors, support their work, and build a culture of prayerfulness, excellence, collaboration and innovation.
- Ensure all content is aligned with Catholic teaching and complies with copyright laws and other legal and regulatory requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proven experience in content creation, management, and strategy development.
- Proficiency in content creation tools and content management systems, analytical tools, and comfort managing multi-channel media projects.
- Passion for storytelling and creating engaging content.
- Passionate about contributing to the mission of the Catholic Church as a servant leader in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
- Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in digital marketing, editorial planning, content development and content strategy.
- Minimum of three years of experience managing direct reports, cross-department teams, external contractors, and vendors.
Travel Required
Ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.
