Job Summary: The Parking Lot Supervisor at the St. Vincent de Paul Indianapolis 30th Street Food Pantry will be responsible for managing traffic flow, ensuring safety in the parking lot, and overseeing the collection and return of shopping carts for shoppers. The individual will work closely with pantry staff and volunteers to create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for clients accessing the food pantry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Traffic Control:
- Direct vehicles in and out of the parking lot efficiently and safely.
- Manage the flow of traffic during peak hours to avoid congestion.
- Assist clients with parking and ensure proper parking lot utilization.
- Maintain clear lanes for emergency vehicles and delivery trucks.
- Cart Collection and Management:
- Ensure shopping carts are readily available for shoppers by retrieving them from the parking lot and returning them to the pantry entrance.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of shopping carts.
- Monitor carts to prevent theft or damage.
- Safety and Security:
- Ensure the parking lot remains safe for clients, volunteers, and staff by addressing any potential hazards (e.g., spills, ice, debris).
- Provide assistance to individuals with mobility issues or those in need of extra help transporting groceries to their vehicles.
- Work closely with security personnel to address any incidents or safety concerns.
- Customer Service:
- Greet clients and visitors with a friendly, welcoming attitude.
- Answer basic inquiries about parking, cart availability, and pantry hours.
- Assist clients in loading/unloading groceries into/from their vehicles if needed.
- Coordination with Staff and Volunteers:
- Collaborate with pantry staff and volunteers to ensure a seamless experience for clients.
- Report any maintenance issues related to the parking lot or carts to the appropriate department.
- Assist in training new volunteers on parking lot procedures and cart collection as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in a supervisory, customer service, or logistics role is a plus.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Friendly, helpful demeanor with a customer-focused attitude.
- Basic knowledge of safety protocols and ability to address minor safety concerns.
Working Conditions
Outdoor work, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
Physical activity including walking, pushing/pulling carts, and lifting light loads (up to 25 lbs).

Tuesday 7am - 12:30pm
Thursday 7am - 12:30pm and 4pm - 7:30pm
Friday 8am - 12:30pm
Saturday 7am - 12:30pm
