The Archdiocese of Chicago is looking for a
Case Manager - Clinical Coordinator to oversee and monitor services for the following offices under the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth (1) Office for Child Abuse Investigations and Review and the Prayer and Penance Program and (2) the Office of Assistance Ministry.
The Office for Child Abuse Investigations and Review (CAIR) works to provide a compassionate and thorough process to receive and investigate reports of abuse against personnel of the Archdiocese of Chicago. CAIR staff receives, reviews and investigates allegations of the sexual abuse of minors by clerics, lay employees and volunteers of the Archdiocese of Chicago. In cases where the reported abuse took place outside of the Archdiocese of Chicago and/or by personnel not of the Archdiocese of Chicago, CAIR staff connects individuals reporting abuse with the appropriate public authority and/or entity.
The Prayer and Penance Program was established for priests withdrawn from ministry due to at least one substantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor. The program was initiated in 2008 by Francis Cardinal George to provide safety for the community, the program participants and the Church. Withdrawn priests are expected to do penance for their sins, pray for victims/survivors of sexual abuse and pray for the Church harmed by the actions of some priests. The primary purpose of the Prayer and Penance program is to prevent sexual abuse by the program participants and to protect the community from harm.
Office for Child Abuse Investigations and Review (CAIR) and the Prayer & Penance Program
The Case Manager reports to the Director of CAIR and supports the Director in the following ways:
- Manages and tracks allegations against religious men and women, lay employees and volunteers. Includes notification of civil authorities when warranted, communication with appropriate archdiocesan offices and other entities, tracking process of related investigations, reporting to the Lay Advisory Board, and notifying appropriate offices/other entities of the outcome of respective investigations and internal reviews.
- Provides supervision and monitoring of priests assigned to the Archdiocese’s Prayer and Penance Program. The primary purpose of the Prayer and Penance program is to prevent sexual abuse by the program participants and to protect the community from harm. The priests in the Prayer and Penance Program are those withdrawn from ministry due to at least one substantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor.
Office of Assistance Ministry
The Clinical Coordinator reports to the Director of Assistance Ministry and supports the Director by overseeing therapeutic services for Victim-Survivors of church personnel misconduct and their families.
Responsibilities Listed Are Not Limited To Other Duties Assigned
Case Manager
- Develop systems of support for program participants.
- Verify the accuracy of participants’ daily logs and travel requests.
- Establish communication with therapists, sponsors, and members of the participants’ community support network.
- Maintain ongoing, personal communication with the program participants to continually assess risk.
- Develop and oversee the maintenance of participants’ Individual Specific Protocols.
- Oversee clinical services for participants.
- Document the compliance and non-compliance of program participants.
- Oversee and manage incoming allegations involving religious men and women, lay employees (includes third-party vendors) and volunteers.
Clinical Coordinator
- Design and develop a manner in which to evaluate the outreach (i.e., psychological and spiritual) services offered to clients of the Office of Assistance Ministry.
- Monitor therapeutic outreach to individual clients of the office.
- Maintain professional relationships with treating therapists. Send necessary forms and documentation to the therapist. Explain billing and payment procedures. Review submitted paperwork from therapist and verify licensing, etc.
- Receive therapeutic treatment reports from treating therapists on individual cases, when required.
- Based on reports, work with therapists on future commitments from the Archdiocese.
- Attend appropriate meetings with archdiocesan leadership on individual cases, if needed and requested.
- Consult and collaborate with the Director of Assistance Ministry on specific cases.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field
- Minimum 2 years' experience in victim center trauma informed therapy
- Licensed through State Licensing Board of Illinois
- Strong writing and documentation skills
- Investigative skills

This position has an annualized salary range of $58,663 - 87,994. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
