Pay Rate: $16.50 – $18 per hour, pay dependent on education and experience

Position Summary
To support St. Mary of Escondido in its mission to fall deeper in love with Christ who is ever-present in the Eucharist, His Church, and the Sacraments, and to serve one another, this position is responsible for the implementation and initiation of parish-based pastoral ministry with young adults (ages 18-35) and high school youth (grades 9-12). This position works collaboratively with, and under the supervision of, the Marriage and Family Life Coordinator to plan and facilitate the Parish’s young adult and youth ministry efforts to foster evangelization, catechesis, and parish involvement. All planned events, activities, ministry efforts, and catechesis must align with the parish vision and meet the approval of the pastor.

- Establish intentional relationships with young adults and high school youth, providing them opportunities to connect to a faithful community of support where they can grow spiritually, create relationships, and become actively involved in Parish life.
- Work in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, the Marriage and Family Life Coordinator, as well as in collaboration with the Confirmation Coordinator to create and maintain seamless opportunities for young adults and youth to experience full and active participation in the Parish through weekend liturgies, ministry, service, outreach opportunities, and activities / events that allow them to live the Gospel.
- Organize and lead core team(s) of young adult and youth ministry programs that (a) outreach to the young adults and youth of the Parish community and (b) outreach and collaborate with local schools and universities so the youth, young adult, and family life ministries can develop programs, events, activities, and ministries (including goals, objectives, and strategies) based on relevant needs and interests.
- In collaboration with relevant ministries, develop year-long schedules, coordinate and execute events and programs such as Bible studies, conferences, retreats, and service experiences that foster the spirituality of young adults and youth in the Parish.
- Plan and coordinate educational experiences for young adults and youth through workshops, discussions, speakers, peer ministry, small faith sharing groups, and service opportunities.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of the young adults and youth in the ministry.
- Maintain active and respectful communication with the young adults, the youth and their families, the parish staff, and community through the use of telephone, e-mail, the Parish bulletin and website, and social media (in adherence to Diocesan and Parish policies) to provide information about current young adult ministry and youth events or activities.
- Attend monthly Parish staff meetings and weekly meetings with supervisor.
- Other job-related tasks deemed necessary and / or assigned by individual's supervisor.
- A background check and negative TB test are required for this position
Requirements
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Active practicing Roman Catholic, in full communion with the Church
- Ability to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and to serve as a committed witness to the faith
- Ability to keep abreast of youth and young adult faith formation research and needs within the Church
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment, under supervision or independently through a variety of communication methods
- Ability to take initiative, create, and innovate with a willingness to learn and grow within a dynamic environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when managing sensitive Parish matters
- Exercise prudence and reflective judgment
- Show exceptional attention to detail while prioritizing to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Well versed in using a computer and social media, including, but not limited to Microsoft Suite
- Valid CA driver's license with the ability to travel to the Parish and other associated locations within the Diocese for work-related duties
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, New Evangelization, Religious Studies or related discipline (completed or in progress; preferred degree requirement may be waived with relative experience)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- CPR and Basic First Aid Certified
Work Environment
- This is a hybrid position: ministry planning and organization is completed remotely; meetings with parish staff and all other activities with young adults, youth, and Parish ministry are conducted on the Parish campus or at associated locations
- The position uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be present in the parish. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the choir loft/section, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
