The Diocese of Rockville Centre is currently seeking an Assistant Director in the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People to work in our offices at the Chancery in Rockville Centre, New York. This position is an on-site, full-time role with hours being Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Travel throughout Long Island would be a part of this job, and a motor vehicle is required. This person will report to the Director for the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director in the Office for the Protection of Children/Young People (OFPCYP) will assist the Director in the day-to-day operations in two distinct areas and programs: Survivors Assistance and Safe Environment. This position reports to the Director of the office and works closely with all outside entities on all matters relating to sustaining and strengthening safe environments within the Church for children and youth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
•Under the supervision of the Director, will assist in all matters handling survivor matters including providing ongoing support to them and their families, providing referrals to appropriate licensed mental health providers and maintaining all information and documentation.
•Monitor completion of required safe environment protocols of all employees, volunteers in all parishes, schools and Diocesan entities. These protocols include attendance at a Virtus: Protecting God's Children Program; background screening at five-year intervals for all those engaged in active ministry/employment; acknowledgment of Diocesan Codes of Conduct and participation in on-going training through monthly completion of bulletins.
•Assist with training of Safe Environment Coordinators in Diocesan parishes and schools.
•Will lead Virtus classes on the local level as needed and provide Virtus facilitator training to individuals identified as leaders within the parish community.
•Responsible to maintain Virtus database/ documentation for annual audit reports as mandated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
•Will work with the Director on development and implementation of centralized background screening database for all employees and volunteers throughout the Diocese.
•Will provide support to team in data collection of youth safe environment programs offered in Catholic schools and Faith Formation programs during each academic year.
•Assist the Director in necessary steps required to convene the Diocesan Review Board as needed.
•Serve as point of contact for bilingual communities, insuring implementation of Safe Environment Protocols in each of these communities.
REQUIREMENTS
•Master's Degree in mental health discipline; knowledge of trauma informed treatment.
•Bilingual, fluency in Spanish preferred.
•Flexible work schedule to include weekends/evenings occasionally.
•Ability to travel throughout the Diocese for on-site meetings in Nassau/Suffolk Counties.
•Knowledge of mandated reporting procedures.
•Strong written/verbal communication skills.
•Leadership and supervisory skills which include ability to evaluate and offer constructive feedback; encourages independent work in others , supports co-workers to initiate tasks and problem-solve; ability to lead by example.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience, qualifications and education.
