JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant performs comprehensive clinical and administrative medical assisting duties in the behavioral health medication clinic that
serves adults with serious and persistent mental illness, many with co-occurring somatic and substance abuse disorders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support at the front desk welcoming consumers, scheduling and coordinating consumer appointments.
a. Assist consumers on the phone and in person.
b. Verify consumer insurance and scan insurance card in electronic medical records.
- Update consumer medical histories.
a. Maintain consumer electronic medical records prior to appointments.
b. Review Providers’ notes and document treatment coordination note in Credible for recommendations including Physicals completed by Primary Care Physician in the Clinic. Print lab reports daily for any and all labs ordered by Providers.
c. Print notes from DBH’s EMR (ICAMS) for new consumers being seen for initial Psych evaluations.
d. Ensure all consumers have Primary Care Physician (PCP) entered in profile.
- Administer medication for consumers.
a. Assist with obtaining medication authorizations as needed.
b. Follow up with consumers and/or their treatment teams about medications not picked up, medicines not received from the pharmacy, or other medication issues to ensure continuity of care. Pick up medication Pharmacy has delivered.
- Serve as liaison between doctors and consumers.
- Provide consumer education on somatic health issues.
- Count, compute, and reconcile checks from parish reimbursements and general donations. Complete the Agency form Check/Cash Receipts Log (CR-B) detailing
checks collected that will be given to Finance.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High school or GED.
- Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- One-year experience working in a Behavioral Healthcare setting.
- One-year experience working as a Medical Assistant.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
