About the Department:
The Archdiocese of New York serves the pastoral and spiritual needs of 2.5 million Catholics in nearly 300 parishes throughout its three boroughs of New York City and seven counties to the north. The Archdiocese includes 172 Catholic schools serving more than 53,000 students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Additionally, the Archdiocese helps more than 400,000 individuals each year through Catholic Charities, and it provides compassionate care to patients and families through ArchCare, the healthcare ministry.
The Good NewsroomTMis the digital news outlet of the Archdiocese of New York, providing daily updates and stories about the good works of the Catholic Church within our region. With the goal of enhancing a sense of community among Catholics and non-Catholics, The Good Newsroom was launched in late November 2022 to better communicate with the Archdiocese faithful as well as the broader community.
The Newsroom is designed to evangelize and engage audiences with uplifting stories and news about the people, parishes, and ministries of the Archdiocese. To accomplish this, the Newsroom utilizes all of the modern communication forms available, including video, articles, photography, and essays. This outreach is enhanced by a quick-publishing model which brings excitement and vitality to the Archdiocese’s communications. As a result, The Good Newsroom reaches and informs many thousands of people via our dedicated website and social media channels, as well as our App and e-newsletter.
Stories are published in English and Spanish to ensure we are reaching the diverse audience of Catholics in our area.

Overview/Purpose:
The Digital Advertising Sales Representative will be an ambassador for the brand and be capable of building long-term relationships with existing and new partners. S/he will be motivated and performance oriented. The successful candidate will create effective strategies to sell and close deals across our award-winning, multi-channel news outlet.
In 2023, The Good Newsroom published over 2,000 stories, across seven platforms, telling stories of the good works of the Catholic Church in our area. Thousands of people interact with our content each month through our mobile-friendly website, app, social media, and e-newsletter.
The DASR will be a proactive, innovative, savvy internal and external communicator, with a well-developed understanding of digital sales and a proven track record of achieving advertising sales targets.
Reports to: Director of Brand Management and Digital Sales
Responsibilities:
- Develop an understanding of the goals of The Good Newsroom and the needs of existing and potential advertisers. Use phone, virtual (Zoom), and in-person meetings to communicate and demonstrate the dynamic channels of the digital Newsroom. Utilize standard and/or develop customized sales packages that convey the unique selling propositions of advertising with The Good Newsroom.
- Continually modify sales pitches in creative ways to meet advertisers’ needs (e.g., selling advertising bundles, sponsorships, etc.); always looking for innovative ways to build value for the advertiser.
- Use Excel, QuickBooks, and other reporting methods to track revenue and communicate its status to leadership, as needed. Report on accounts receivable.
- Share information regularly with leadership about the status of sales pipelines, commitments of current advertisers, probabilities of prospective advertisers, and feedback from advertisers on their needs and better ways to meet them.
- Make recommendations that will increase efficiency and sales revenue.
- Provide data to assist the Director in building analytical models to optimize sales revenue.
- Work with other members of The Good Newsroom team on administrative matters and reporting.
- Be a spokesperson for the brand, understand The Good Newsroom content and engagement goals, and articulate the culture and values of the organization.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- An associate’s degree is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience successfully selling digital advertising in a variety of media channels.
- Self-starter with a proven record of meeting sales quotas.
- Experience with the entire digital advertising cycle: prospecting, developing targeted sales pitches, engaging prospects, closing sales, maintaining ongoing relationships, and obtaining repeat sales.
- A track record of developing creative and innovative sales packages: advertising bundles, sponsorships, etc.
- Familiar with engagement dashboards; capable of using Excel and QuickBooks software.
- Knowledgeable about digital advertising analytics and performance reporting.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church and some familiarity with the Archdiocese of New York is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout the geographic region of the Archdiocese of New York.
- Seasoned project manager possessing excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Can manage multiple priorities and sales projects successfully.
- Demonstrated customer service skills; works well with diverse groups of people.
- Spanish language is a plus.
- Exudes credibility and professionalism. Possesses strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Straightforward, results-driven person with unquestionable personal integrity.
- A highly committed, community-minded individual, with the necessary drive and stamina to respond to the demands of the institution and work collaboratively to achieve results in a fast-paced work environment.
Compensation range for this position is: $80,000 – $100,000 annually.
This position is considered exempt and not eligible for overtime.
