Dean of Students 2025-2026
Duration: Full time (11 months) School year per contract
FLSA: exempt/contract employee
Schedule: Monday through Friday (plus scheduled events)
Hours: 8 am to 4:30 pm

Job Purpose: The Dean of Students serves as a member of the administrative team of the school. The Dean of Students supports the mission of the school by embracing the Dominican charism, ensuring a strong program of student discipline and providing guidance and attention to students and faculty. This position primarily deals with the needs, concerns, and activities of students in all areas other than academic. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Principal and has a consultative relationship with the academic dean, dean of faculty, campus minister, admissions director and athletic director. This person is a member of the Faculty/Staff Advisory Committee.
Faith, Community, and Dominican Charism
- Ensure that the four pillars of a Dominican education (prayer, study, community, preaching) are developed and promoted among the school community.
- Develop an active faith community and model Christian values.
- Support prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities.
- Uphold and implement the Dominican charism and the Houston Dominican Sisters’ congregational goals.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion by honoring the dignity of each member of the St. Agnes Academy community.
Main Responsibilities
Discipline
- Provide leadership and direction so that good order and discipline is maintained
- Supervise the Dean of Students Team. Collaborate and coordinate all discipline situations when appropriate
- Enforce the school regulations as stated in the handbook
- Work with and supervise faculty regarding classroom management and discipline
- Assign and supervise detentions and after-school detentions with the associate dean of students.
- Keep records of all infractions and disciplinary actions
- Establish behavioral contracts as needed and work with family during probationary period
- Oversee and train members of the discipline board. Call and manage discipline board hearings as needed. Meet with students, parents and counselors to prepare for board hearings
- Work with students, teachers, counselors and parents to address discipline issues
Attendance
- Oversee attendance. Supervise the attendance coordinator who handles daily attendance, maintains the attendance files, monitors the attendance calendar and manages tardy violations
- Enforce all attendance policies and give appropriate consequences for unexcused absences when needed
- Run attendance reports per week to ensure all students are within the limits of the TEA threshold.
- Notify students and parents of excessive absences. Meet with student and counselor to discuss excessive absences. Issue attendance probation and contracts where needed
- Meet with students and parents who have extenuating circumstances or illnesses and monitor cases
- Approve all field trips or school activities, and review list of students attending
Social-Emotional Counseling
- Supervise the Director of Student Support and support the members of their team
- Support the wellness counselors in dealing with students and families with social- emotional issues
- Enforce the counselor’s recommendations for outside treatment as a condition of enrollment
- Coordinate with counselors and academic dean regarding students withdrawing with intent to return
- Collaborate on student and parent programing with the wellness counselors
- Schedule and lead regular wellness case management meetings
Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Oversee the school’s policy for both random and suspicion-based drug testing
- Maintain all supplies for drug testing and alcohol breathalyzing. Maintain supplies for the “dance kit” for all dances
- Keep informed of trends in drug and alcohol abuse amongst teenagers. Maintain a list of referrals for drug and alcohol treatment programs in accordance with the Wellness Department.
- Meet with students and parents who incur drug and alcohol violations. Oversee discipline contracts for students with violations
Programming and Student Activities
- Coordinate with the director of student activities and/or the student council sponsors on all school sponsored events
- Assist director of student activities and class sponsors with class elections
- Select and appoint class sponsors in conjunction with director of student activities. Support class sponsors with their jobs as needed. Assist class sponsors with any conflicts that may arise with student leaders
- Work with student council to provide student activities that promote student involvement and increase school spirit. Supervise pep rallies
- Work with senior sponsor and leadership on Welcome Week. Work with seniors and their sponsors on proposed senior privileges for FSAC review. Supervise all Welcome Week activities
- Assist director of student activities with all clubs. Act as a resource person for all sponsors of student activities. Publish annually a description of all clubs and their officers. Approve new clubs
- Attend Prom, Orientation Dance, and Winter Formal. Work with junior class sponsors on Prom decisions and with STUCO advisors on Winder formal. Update contracts for the Winter Formal and Prom
- Plan and coordinate with the Principal’s Team Veritas Vacation Day
- Plan and coordinate with a committee Celebrate SAA assembly
Administrative
- Maintain the master calendar for all activities. Keep faculty apprised of all schedule changes and work with Jesuit to keep calendars coordinated
- Submit items for Tiger Tracks and Tiger Block Talk when needed
- Revise and publish annually the student handbook policy handbook. Manage contracts and coordinate deadlines with handbook publishers
- Act as a liaison with administrative assistant to the principal with outside resources on class rings, graduations announcements, caps & gowns, and school uniforms
- Communicate with students and faculty pertinent information such as early dismissal or late arrival days, assembly dress days, etc.
- Coordinate all emergency drills and crisis management issues with the associate dean of students
- Oversee the updating and distribution of the crisis management plan
- Assist the director of student activities with the organization of Tiger Camp. Assist as needed with transfer student
- Attend all Principal’s Team and full admin meetings, as well as annual administrative planning retreats
- Give presentations at Parent Events when needed
- Serve as an ambassador and assist as needed at Follow Your Daughter’s Schedule, Open House and Incoming 9th Grade Registration
Clinic
- Oversee the clinic
- Supervise the school nurse who monitors the clinic, orders supplies, and maintains the health records
Required Qualifications
- Commitment to embrace the mission of St. Agnes Academy
- Minimum of a four-year B.A./B.S. degree in Education, Counseling or related field (Master’s level preferred)
- Track record of working with students effectively and behavior intervention
- At least 5 years’ experience working with students, particularly in a leadership capacity; prior high school experience (preferable)
- Proven leadership skills and experience
- Passion for quality education and high expectations for all students
- Models standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism
- Meets schedules and deadlines
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Excellent judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy
