Description
The Principal Musician and Choir Director will participate in the planning and preparation liturgical celebrations to include Sunday Eucharist, major feasts, funerals, weddings, and other special liturgies working in conjunction with the Liturgist and Pastor.
This position will choose from primarily Gospel music but may also include Contemporary and Traditional styles that will enhance our celebration and facilitate the full and active participation of the assembly. Music selections will be approved in advance by the Liturgist unless another arrangement is reached.
The Principal Musician is responsible for preparing song sheets and other materials for use by the choir and the congregation and conducting well organized weekly scheduled choir rehearsals.
This position will manage the sheet music inventory, schedule maintenance of the parish-owned instruments, and will notify the Liturgist of any issues with the microphones, speakers, and other equipment.
The Principal Musician will assist the Liturgist in preparing the annual Liturgy and Worship Department budget.
The Principal Musician may be required to attend occasional meetings with the Pastor and Liturgy Committee or parish staff.
This position requires instrumental and vocal skills and thorough knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy. A practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
This is a part-time exempt position, and the pay rate will be determined according to the Diocesan schedule. The payroll date is the last business day of the month. Fees for weddings and funerals will be determined separately from the regular pay.
