Position Summary
The Instructional Technologist, a key member of Franciscan’s eLearning Support Team, reports to the Senior Instructional Technologist and works closely with the Support Manager and Information Technology Staff to support students, faculty, and staff in implementing and using the University’s Learning Management System (LMS) and other instructional technology tools. The Instructional Technologist will also act as the frontline support person and a backup for performing routine maintenance and updating of the Learning Management System.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide excellent and compassionate level 1 support for students, faculty, and staff using the University LMS and related tools.
- Manage day-to-day administrative tasks on the Learning Management System such as creating courses, modifying enrollments, creating organizations, adding system announcements, etc.
- Assist instructional design staff with building, maintaining, and updating courses.
- Assist with setting up, managing, testing, and supporting LMS integrations.
- Assist with feed file integration with the Student information System and the LMS.
- Handles time-sensitive inquiries into systems and tools and refers appropriately to the Senior Instructional Technologist.
- Compiles concise, thorough documentation for submitting support tickets to University tool partners.
- Build and maintain a knowledge base for technology tools that can be used by faculty, staff, and students for training purposes.
- Collaborate with Information Technology staff on Student Information System integration, and technical support.
- Assist the Senior Instructional Technologist with optimizing and expanding functionality of current technologies and researching additional tools that could enhance the students’ learning and faculty teaching experience.

Technical Skills
- Must have demonstrated experience at providing excellent customer service to a wide range of users.
- Must have experience in using and supporting Learning Management Systems and accompanying tools.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and research various types of technology devices and tools to help solve user issues.
- Experience with Python, HTML/CSS, Java Script preferred.
- Some familiarity with software development practices

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or higher in related field preferred or combined education/experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years of experience using and providing eLearning support to university students and faculty in use of eLearning tools or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Canvas LMS preferred.
- Experience and expertise in using and supporting a learning management system (Canvas preferred), web video conferencing (Zoom/Teams preferred), video recording and editing, and experience supporting computer and video hardware, peripherals (i.e., web cams), and operating systems.
- Experience supporting web browsers and smart devices and their interface with 3rd party applications.
- Evidence of understanding of current and emerging technologies and ability and passion to quickly learn new technologies used for collaboration, teaching, and learning.
