Position Overview:
The K–8 Media Teacher plays a vital role in fostering digital literacy, promoting a love for print and digital media, and supporting the effective use of educational technology. This Shared Time position serves St. William Catholic School and is ideal for a certified educator with a passion for empowering students as digital citizens, readers, and lifelong learners.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
- Teach K–8 students using a curriculum rooted in four strands: library, research, literature, and digital citizenship
- Guide students in the ethical and effective use of technology and information resources
- Promote inquiry-based learning and student self-direction through access to media tools and resources
- Collaborate with teachers on integrating media and technology into classroom instruction
Library & Media Center Management:
- Manage circulation and maintenance of books, digital media, and technology tools
- Develop displays, curate relevant resources, and introduce new materials to students and staff
- Maintain an organized and inviting learning space in the media center
- Assist students with research projects and instructional technology tools
Planning & Collaboration:
- Plan integrated media lessons aligned with school goals and student needs
- Coordinate media program goals with school staff and administration
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the media program and revise as needed
- Provide classroom support for special projects requiring technology or digital resources
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records and assist in media budget planning
- Communicate with parents and engage the school community
- Continue professional growth through workshops and educational opportunities
- Uphold high standards of professionalism and collaborative spirit
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate required
- Educational Technology (NP) endorsement preferred
- Experience teaching elementary and middle school students
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to design inclusive, effective media programs for diverse learners

All candidates must undergo fingerprinting and a criminal background check at their own expense, per Michigan School Safety Legislation. This position is offered through the Berkley School District Shared Time Services.
