Job Description: The Director of Technology at the Cathedral of St. Berchmans Parish and School will manage the Cathedral campus network and server infrastructure, the school information system, audio-visual technology, and classroom technology, and will provide technical support to teachers, staff, and students.
Experience Requirements:
5+ years of experience working in the technology field OR bachelor's degree in an area related to information technology support and administration OR Certifications, which may include CompTIA A+, Network+, etc.
Proficient understanding of Windows Server Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, managed network switches, Windows OS, and some familiarity with Google Workspace.
Familiarity with classroom technology such as Smart Technologies,
Prometheans, and Chromebooks.
Familiarity with audio-visual equipment and online streaming platforms (e.g., OBS Studio, Facebook Live, YouTube Live)
Required Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work and communicate with people of a wide range of ages. This includes young children to adults.
Ability to work with large amounts of data while maintaining precision and accuracy.
Organizational skills and an ability to plan and execute projects in an efficient and effective manner.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak and write in a professional and polite manner.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintain accounts of active employees and students in various systems, including Active Directory, Google Workspace, FACTS SIS, and other online educational resources.
Maintain accurate email/text message contact distribution lists for
communications with faculty/staff/parents/students.
Maintain campus network security with the use of network firewall, content filtering, and antivirus. Keep end users informed and prepared through preventative cybersecurity training, and respond quickly to imminent threats.
Assist with school SIS operations such as running report cards, inputting student class schedules, setting up classes, and configuring grading scales.
Assist with online payment systems such as PayPal and Zettle point-of-sale, and manage online registrations for various events and summer camps.
Use WordPress content management system and make updates to the school and church websites.
Inventory, provision, distribute, and maintain 100+ student Chromebooks.
Inventory, provision, distribute, and maintain 50+ Windows domain PCs for faculty and staff at the church and school. This may entail cloning student computer labs and installing specialized software for various staff.
Respond to sudden requests for tech support from staff, faculty, and students (e.g., user cannot log in, PC not booting, webpage not loading, etc.)
Negotiate with technology vendors to purchase equipment and software licenses.
Install or subcontract installation of classroom technology (mount displays to walls, install cabling)
Maintain and operate audio-visual equipment in various meeting spaces.
Occasionally be present to assist with audio-visual or point-of-sale equipment at various important events during irregular hours or weekends.
Minor installations and repairs of the network, phone, or audio-visual cabling, including crimping and terminating cable.
Drive a customer service mindset building a culture focused on supporting the school's administrative and academic requirements as well as the Cathedral's needs, which enables the faculty and staff, as well as the Cathedral staff, to work effectively while training and empowering users to develop skills and knowledge in the applications they use.
Managing day-to-day operations, including but not limited to managing physical and logical security for the network systems and data.
Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for physical equipment, data, and backup systems.
Responsible for maintaining, implementing, and managing backups.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for long periods.
Ability to frequently stand, walk across campus, and occasionally climb, kneel, or crawl.
Ability to lift at least twenty pounds.
