Position Description
Job Title: School Nurse
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Part Time; 6 hours per week
Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal; no reports
Job Function: To enhance health and wellness within the school community. This includes providing professional nursing services to students and staff and maintaining accurate medical records.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing services, first aide, illness and emergency care to students and staff. This includes nursing assessment, identifying health-related problems, making referrals for diagnosis and treatment, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation and maintaining related documentation.
- Communicate student health concerns to respective parents.
- Maintain accurate student medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations and medical conditions.
- Provide health information and consultation for students, parents and staff.
- Develop a medication protocol for the school to safely store, administer, document and monitor the effectiveness of all medication dispersed on school property.
- Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
- Arrange with the Southern Lehigh School District nurse to provide health screenings for St. Michael the Archangel School students.
- Keep inventory of health office supplies and order as necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues.
- Assist main office staff at the request of the Principal.
- Any other duties assigned by the principal.

Educational Requirements:
- Registered Nursing License
- Current First Aide and CPR Training Certification
- Prior professional nursing experience, preferably with children
- Must acquire and maintain certifications needed.

** Must have clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.) As well as attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally need to lift a child. Occasional personal and close contact with children is required. Regular contact with staff members, administration, and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Working Conditions: Pre- K through 4th Grade school environment. The nurse will coordinate days with Principal; 2 days a week from 11AM to 2 PM.
