Organization: The John Paul II Center for Theology of the Body exists to ignite the hearts of men and women with the Good News of love, sex, marriage, and the body so that we may truly live it and wholeheartedly proclaim it. We strive to provide a house of formation for men and women seeking to grow in healing, holiness, and their God-given humanity by forming youth, equipping adult leaders, and evangelizing culture. Formally staffed by two employees, our efforts are strengthened and multiplied by an impressive lead volunteer team (all former program participants) and other dedicated collaborators. With great confidence that financial support follows fervent service, we expect to add at least one more formal staff member by the end of 2025.
Position Summary & Fidelity Requirements: The Manager of Events & Business is responsible for the good of the organization and furtherance of its mission. Supporting the Executive Director, he or she works to develop and ensure the Center’s events, business practices, and compliance to accomplish the mission and purpose of the Center. The Manager of Events & Business must be in full agreement with the organization’s Christian mission and theology. One who serves in this position reports to the Executive Director and serves as part of the leadership team.
Responsibilities & Duties: Managerial leadership of organization in prayer and character as well as in stewarding the Center’s mission.
Other duties include:
- Participation on leadership team
- Planning and execution of events that promote Christian evangelization, conversion, and discipleship, especially through the Theology of the Body – emphasizing the integration of Church teaching on marriage and sexuality, life issues, human dignity, etc. into all areas of family and community life as well as into evangelical, catechetical/educational, and pastoral efforts within the parish, diocese, and beyond. This includes the development and presentation of Theology of the Body talks and courses as delegated by Executive Director.
- Administration of the Center’s business related items (i.e. payroll, accounting, compliance, etc.). This may take the form of direct collaboration with the organization’s contracted accounting services agency.
- Collaboration on all mission advancement efforts — including annual fundraiser, grant writing, and appeals — towards long-term stability and sustainability
- Occasional communication with all members as well as intentional engagement of major benefactors and lead volunteers
- Development and maintenance of website, member database, social-media, and relationships with other persons and organizations to grow the Center’s exposure, reach, and effectiveness
- Any job-related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Team player and leader with enthusiasm for both common and individual goals
- Ability to take initiative and work independently by establishing and executing immediate, intermediate, and long-term goals
- Working knowledge of the actual text of the Theology of the Body along with working knowledge of St. John Paul II’s personal history, papal writings, and books, especially Love and Responsibility
- Working knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Code of Canon Law, and Catholic Social Teaching
- Understanding of and commitment to the Catholic Church and its ministerial obligations.
- Working competency and experience with giving talks and presentations on the Theology of the Body and the Catholic Faith in general
- Working competency and experience with donor engagement, fundraising, and communications strategies
- Ability to work well with parishes, dioceses, schools, and other entities to respond to questions
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to write grants and appeals, to initiate and maintain collaborative relationships, and to represent the Center and its mission in accurate, written materials such as emails, social media posts, brochures, flyers, and PR materials.
- Ability to collaborate on the planning process and the successful execution of annual fundraiser and other events
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Basic budgeting skills to create an annual budget and follow through with it
- Working knowledge of social media platforms and website development platforms along with the ability to design flyers via Canva or some other layout program is preferred
- Valid AZ driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout Phoenix and beyond as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Two to five years experience in a related position
- Bilingual abilities preferred
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job often occurs via remote work and offsite meetings around Phoenix and beyond.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This job often requires travel around the Phoenix area and occasionally beyond.
